Are you simply asking what kind of art should hang there? It is really such personal preference. I'm glad that clock is coming down.

If there is a nice view outside, I'd consider hanging a mirror.

the idea of the mirror speaks to reflectivity..I wouldnt use a mirror but the large windows likely means there is light flowing in. Id take them to check out a few wallpaper books...it would be an easy and appropriate wall to work with floor to ceiling color/ pattern.....what is their style?

I might stay away from shelves as it looks like a tight squeeze and it would be easy to bang against them when pulling the chair out.

Art and no way can we suggest what art . Get your parents to pick something they like. I cannot tell you how much I hate clocks for decor except for a granfather one in an entry . I would also get a new light fo a bit of a change

Seems they like plants and perhaps botanical prints might appeal to them. Try Etsy (there are modern and traditional versions). Then tape paper on wall to get a sense of their size and placement, before you buy. Also try Target, Marshalls/Home Sense and Wayfair.

Often when a change is made, you look at your other things in a different light and a new chandelier would be a lovely addition + a pretty centrepiece. That corner could be so cozy and cute. (Don’t suggest a mirror or shelves.)

A lovely piece of artwork, that goes with the colors in the dining room should work well.
