Don't start a second post. Just add photos by making a comment and adding photos to the comment. But we have to see the entire space, including that beam.

Without seeing the rest of the room it's hard to know if painting those bricks the white wash was the best choice. There are other options for the brick.

You cannot edit using the Houzz app. It's best if you adjust your post on a computer instead. There are more options and you can edit easily.

Can that light box/ beam be removed, is there brick behind it on the fireplace side?

Thank you for the extra photos. The fireplace is only part of the problem in your room. Your massive black TV screen overpowers the room and sucks up the light. The brick planter is additionally another problem in the room as is the box beam lighting structure. If you want this room to look better, focus on fixing these problems

--Remove the light box beam.

--Remove the bizarre brick planter. Absolutely lose this.

--Consider painting the entire fireplace wall, including TV a warm charcoal brown since you have brownish furniture. Beverly's examples show how an accent wall will help deal with the problem wall.

Thank you for the input yes absolutely the light beam and planter are on my list to go never cared for the carpet either we bought the house during the house market boom so we didn’t have many options to choose from at the time and the upholstered chair do you mean the sheets on the couch? I apologize for the mess

Also I’m planing on moving the tv to different wall the living is pretty big buts it oddly shaped I’m having a hard time arranging the furniture because it’s a long rectangular living room

Some further suggestions:

--If you have the budget, replace carpeting with warm ivory with flecks of gold, brown, taupe. You need contrast between heavy brown leather sofas and the floor.

--Remove the row of spotlights. You could really improve the room with layered lighting. Here's a Houzz article on how to light a room with a variety of lighting.

--Absolutely hang some art on either side of that doorway. It could be related vertical pieces that "talk" to each other. Choose fairly large prints. These are from society6.com.

I'm confused. Your earlier photos show dark brown sofas and dark brown rug. The latest photo shows lighter furniture and rug. Which is it?

For others following, this back and forth kind of thread becomes very chaotic when the OP doesn't provide enough photos of entire space, limitations, and considerations earlier in the thread.

No worries...this forum is tricky to navigate and some regulars on here have little patience.

I know people would kill to have your gorgeous MCM home. Stunning. Doesn't really need anything.

As for the fireplace..off center was common back then so it does not seem odd---at all. Built-in planters were common then, too. Maybe more potted plants on top. Same with the lighting, these indirect light boxes are awesome. The wood screen..beautiful..I could go on and on.

The problem I see is the unpainted brick...the white fireplace and natural red color nearby now clash in the same room. I think you're gonna have to paint all of the brick to match. The charcoal gray proposed looks very nice.

Can you supply some basic dimensions for the room so we can suggest a new layout?

Please understand that it's best to provide the most complete information on this forum in the first post. You started out thinking the problem was the color of the brick. Now, you realize the room overall could use some improvement.

Let’s try this again I originally posted a picture of the fire place I white washed it I wanted help on what kind of tile or brick would look good on the sheath ledge it use to have this ugly green pink tile I know the whole room matter on what would look good but at the moment I’m only focused on the fire place sheath ledge I’m sorry if I’m incorrectly saying that

What is a fireplace sheath ledge?

Shelf ledge? Raised hearth is a commonly used term.

If you're keeping the brown brick then maybe match the hearth tile to that.
