Is my kitchen missing something?

I came on here before for my kitchen renovation (external ventilation and counter tops), but I feel as if something is still missing. I initially wanted an all green kitchen but everyone told me two tone. I don’t think I’m feeling it. Idk tell me what can I should do unless it looks fine to you.

Top cabinets: crushed ice by SW
Bottom: Pewter Green

Want to add that I may have considered painting the surrounding doors (including trim) in pewter green.

I love the green and would have done the uppers in green too. The backsplash looks a bit blah to me. Is it new or could you have used the beautiful marble on it as well?
Other suggestions are to add some accessories. A Persian style runner, window treatment, maybe paint the walls and the doors green.

I agree with the waterfall being more modern. I guess I went a little too hog wild. I’ve always wanted a waterfall but it was too expensive to change my cabinets so I left and painted them.

Backsplash is original to house but it would require demo and my husband and I are not interested in any more contractors in our house

I would have done all green. Two tone works best if just the Island is contrasting, or the lowers wood and the uppers painted, but painting lowers and uppers two colors just look disjointed. Also, your range hood surround sticks out like a sore thumb. I think it 1) should not have been two-toned, 2) should have been paneled to match the cabinet uppers and 3) the frieze and cornice should have continued from the cabinets around the hood surround instead of being interrupted by flat-stock. The backsplash isn't doing you any favors either.

This may have been outside the scope, but I would upgrade the lighting. Replace the 6" cans with modern deep recessed LED cans 4" max, but they make lovely 2" ones now as well.

It would be nice to see more detail on the hood - match the crown. I think the backsplash needs something new. I would also change your paint color.

    I love the counters!

I think all green would have been pretty, but dark. I like the white on the uppers. I would change the backsplash, but I feel you about being done with contractors. :-) Maybe after a year goes by you will be up for it. I wouldn't paint the doors green, but a different wall color might be nice. I can't suggest anything without seeing the room the kitchen opens up into. Maybe Sea Salt, which is a lighter version of Pewter Green? But even Sea Salt might be too saturated. Cut it in half?

I like your kitchen as it is. I love the green and white.

You have a large space over the stove.

Perhaps a utensil rack with some of your favorite tools could provide some interest and function.

I have one with the house we bought and have a lot of my favorite tools there. I throw them in the dishwasher every once in a while.

In my view, it is the stove hood, just too junky and plain, doesn't go with the rest of the kitchen, it draws my eye and not in a good way. I also feel your decor needs some tweaking, ex. I would put your colorfull plant somewhere along the perimeter of your kitchen rather than in the very center which for me is a little jarring, and for the center of your island a nice decorative bowl, or something with less height than the plant. Otherwise I think your kitchen is lovely.

No need to paint right away. Wait, accessorize, as mentioned above. Runner on floors, window treatments, etc. Feel it out a bit, before painting the uppers again.

    It's a beautiful kitchen!

I think some of the comments are a result of the angle and lighting in your photo.

I love that you added all that molding on top of the cabinets!

I love the green island (great choice of colors), and I think the silver bling of the handles sets it off nicely.

So, the only comment I have, is PERHAPS, change out the knobs on your upper cabinets for the same color as the pulls on your lowers. I think the black doesn't really relate to anything in particular, whereas the silver tone adds a bling-feel that reflects (probably) the SS appliances and kitchen faucet.

I bet that space feels alot brighter than it did before!

I really like it. I agree with the poster above - just needs some minor additions.

Take what follows with the idea that I crave light - natural light, and light paint colors - and there's no way I'd do the uppers in green. That would come dangerously close to the black hole effect, IMO. I love the white.

Keep tweaking, keep adding - it's really nice as is, and some nice adds will bring it home.

Why is half the fridge a different color? That is very distracting.

I think it is missing some gold island pendant lights to tie in the gold faucet.

I agree that it would look more cohesive if the uppers knobs matched the metal on the lower pulls.

I agree that the fridge panels would look better if they were the same.

I would DIY paint the tile the color of the uppers. Lots of tutorials on youtube.

I love the green pewter cabinet color. I would not paint the upper cabinets or the doors/trim. I think it would make the kitchen too dark.

Your countertop is stunning! I love the dining room too!

Needs matching crown on the hood. And no orange flowers :)

Your dining room looks spectacular too.

  • last year

I feel like your cabinets with crown are more formal and then you have the plain jane hood which looks like it belongs with shaker cabinets. I think you need to add some sort of additonal trim to the hood. Love the green color of your base cabinets.

  • last year

It’s all really pretty and hopefully you will love it in the end. the only thing I find distracting is the range hood . I would be tempted to paint it to match the green Island. If you might consider that option, get some butcher paper, paint it green and tape it up. Or maybe some kind photoshopper would try it virtually for you. And I love the orange flowers in your room!

    Your dining room is stunning.

Your problem is that your dining room is magazine worthy so anything in the kitchen will feel like a slight let down. :) Rebunky wins the prize with pendents over the island - though I'd get different than what they photoshopped in. They will become the focal point and all the other details that feel slightly off will fade away. And, paint your backsplash to match the uppers. Good-bye window valences. Step up your breakfast nook.

I think some colorful accessories would help to finish off the kitchen. Add some colorful runner rugs, art on the wall, and maybe a wreath or other item on the hood. You could change the backsplash by hand painting some random tiles or perhaps a stencil pattern? Throw in a color item on counter such as a crock or planter and you would have a more finished look. Beautiful.

Great suggestions already - i would just offer that sometimes it is about “taking away” rather than adding - is there anything on your counters you don’t use that could be put away?

Might suggest that you either go all white or all green with the cabinetry. Somehow the present color combination just doesn't strike me as right.

  • last year

I like your kitchen. Are the painted walls staying white? What does the room it’s facing look like?

  • last year

Beautiful stone and gorgeous dining room! I agree with Rebunky that some pretty pendants over the island would look great.

  • last year

Oh, just saw other rooms. The dining room is gorgeous. Maybe rugs? Maybe art on wall to dining room?

  • last year

Love that green! I too would paint the hood green and change the backsplash. The pendants are a great idea too.

  • last year

I know you don't want to go through the effort and cost of a new backsplash, but it is the sore thumb.

The color doesn't work with the other colors in the room.

In this photo I changed the backsplash, wall color and flower arrangement (Purple is a great accent color with pewter green).

This photo has the same changes but leaves the backsplash

You can do a tin backsplash over tile. I might look for a gold finish with a blue green patina, or do gold and distress using the pewter green paint color.

The pale pastel color choices have so much less life in them than the wood is the issue. Deeper stronger colors would have been a better choice. But the best choice would have been to keep the wood.

  • last year

    WOW....LOVE your dining room color!

I would bite the bullet and do the backsplash. I would also change all the knobs and pulls to one color and more streamline in design (straight pulls, not curvy).

  • last year

Thank you everyone. I am going to look into getting peel and stick backsplash tile, possibly painting the walls leading to dining room and add runners and wall art!

  • last year

Its definitely the range hood and i dont think its anyones fault. The issue resulted when you decided to go to the ceiling. Although that crown moulding looks very good, I think the decision to go to ceiling made the range hood a tough solve. Also makes the cabinets look too slim.

Sorry but IMO redo of the function was more important than the paint color and I agree the waterfall is wrong for the kitchen style .Now it is done so what exactly do you feel is missing since IMO I liked the wood much better than the paint and the hood is all I would have changed . I think once you begin to work in there you will see what needs to done IMO a panytry door should always match th cabinets ( it is just a big cabinet) so maybe tack some green paper up there and see if that is better IMO the hood is all wrong but maybe it too in the green . I would have done all the cabinets green since not a lover of the two tone in most cases.

Not the same as your kitchen, but I wonder if green walls could work similarly well …

It's a nice space, but since you're asking:

    - I agree with the above poster who says the waterfall on the side of the island is out of place ... too bulky, doesn't fit with the rest of the room.

    - I would've liked green on all the cabinets. The green is lost in the overall look.

    - I'd like to see more green ... add a smallish wreath above the range and some small green artwork in the rather large upper space on the left (above the pantry?).

    - The back splash is plain and basic, but you have other "stars". Leave it as is -- so it won't become competition for the other items.

    - I agree with other posters that pendants over the island would be a big improvement (and not so hard to add). As presented now, the ceiling is a large blank item that draws the eye in a negative way -- and those pot lights aren't doing anything for the room. Make two of them into pendants, and you'll "break up" that big expanse of white. Add a coordinating light above the kitchen table.

    - The white looks great on the uppers, and the single glass-front cabinet is spot-on.
