Get the newer LED continuous "rope/string". No pin-point reflections on the counters. The light needs to be put at the front, so you are lighting the work surface, not the backsplash.

Plugmold in the back and under cabinet light in the front. Light rail to cover up the lights and a finished skin/panel that matches the cabinet color to make the underside pretty.

My recessed light are 3500K so I made sure the electrician ordered the 3500K under cabinet version.

The LED strip/tape lights pictured above appear to be embedded in a channel cut into the bottom of the cabinet. If you can't do that, you can place them in an aluminum channel (example) attached to the bottom of the cabinet or hide them behind cabinet molding (example). Be sure the strip lights and power supplies are both dimmable.

A color matched skin/panel was added under the cabinets after the plugmold and LED lights were installed, so it looks like they are embedded. Not all cabinet makers will do a finished skin/panel under the upper cabinets, but some might have it as an upgrade option.

Without the skin/panel the LED lights would still have been hidden by the light rail and the plugmold wouldn't be as hidden.

Sorry, I didn't read your comment closely. But I wonder how common such upgrades are. I expect that many people just want to find a simple way to add lights to the undersides of their wall cabinets.

You can buy re-chargable under counter lights at Amazon. I have 3 of these I am going to install when I finish repainting my cabinets. This model is ultra thin and will be hidden by the front of the cabinet. These have adjustments for temperature and also a motion-detection feature. What I really liked is they are installed with a magnets, no hardware. Not expensive and might be a viable alternative to hard-wiring lights.
