I think led tape lights are too modern for this room. A sconce would work great but I would not use this shape- a long narrow ‘library’ or ‘picture’ light would work better

Unless your fixture selection has multiple joints that allows the light to be directed inside the shelves, you will only be lighting the face of the shelves.

I don't think there's room for the canopy in those gooseneck sconces @Usershows. The crown molding looks only to be about 3-4 inches. The horizontal fixtures won't be a perfect solution but will be better than nothing, IMO.

Fortunately, there are picture lights with shallow backplates such as this whose backplate is only 2-3/4" high. Of course, you are going to have to figure out how to run wires to the top of the bookcase.
