That is really hideous looking.

That seems like a very unsafe design. During a strong wind, the panel would act like a sail and might compromise important structures of the home

There's more than just one. There's a handful or so of others like it in the region. Built about a decade ago, the images of them pop up once in a while.

Do not believe everything you see on the internet.

I was pretty skeptical of the OP image. So I did an image look up. The house is real, and there are other buildings like it. Apparently, they are mostly huge ground mounts, just with the mount frame enclosed as a building.

@beesneeds That makes more sense. So they have a steel beam mounted to the panel and then sunk deep into earth. The "house" is maybe an equipment shed at the base?

Green energy isn't necessarily pretty to look at and many times has unintended negative consequences for other parts of the ecosystems, for example, the increase in beached whales with with offshore wind turbines, mining for batteries, etc.

These aren't such easy or clear cut choices as some try to make them out to be.

I think we should be improving/investing in all types of energy, to make it all as efficient and clean as possible, be it fossil, solar, wind, nuclear, etc.

I completely agree, chispa. I worked in the energy industry (research). Early in my career (early 90s), the keynote speaker at a conference said that the answer to our growing energy needs is not coal, gas, wind, solar, nuclear, hydro - it's all of the above. That holds true today - we need to optimize existing energy sources as we develop and perfect new sources.

As an old person, I remember the Energy Crisis of the 70s - when we were taught to turn off lights, turn down the thermostat in the winter, carpool, etc. That's when Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House (which Ronnie Reagan later removed).

Today we are plugging in more than ever, and buying bigger vehicles, bigger homes, bigger everything. While recycling is fairly popular, I don't see us moving toward energy conservation any time soon.

I wonder if they have those panels change their tilt direction throughout the day to follow the sun to maximize sun exposure?

Hi guys, i forgot all about this thread. i a swer to so e qiestions, the home is veey close to where I live, less than 1 hr and it is real. Only in Canada…

We added panels last year and didn’t notice any structural issues or weird weight imbalance. Our installer checked the roof load beforehand, and everything’s been solid through crazy wind and snow.

Kitch, do you mean to say that you had the huge tilting solar panel roof like the OP installed on your house?
