My current house is all cabinets, doors, or windows. My last house had a wall at the end of the peninsula. This is a black and white photograph of the building where the hubby and I met (actually shows our two apartments). Glass is helpful in a kitchen for cleaning.

I have a bunch of art in my kitchen.

Photos don't seem to be cooperating for me either, but I've got 6 pieces of artwork across 3 walls of my kitchen, pretty much every place there's room for something.

No to a mirror unless it reflects a view to the outdoors. I wouldn't want it to reflect the workspace, which won't always be pristine (unless you don't cook).

Photos are showing as an empty box, but if you click on it, you can see the actual photo. I have sen this glitch on Houzz before!

We moved a few years ago. As we were deciding what to put where on the walls, the question was not "What should we put on this wall?". Rather, the question was "What is the best location for the round quilt my Mom made? Where should we out the 3 original paintings?" and so on. We laid out everything we had on the walls before: art, photos, my grandma's copper plates, my Mom's copper mobile. Gradually we found the right home for each treasure - with space left over, so when our dear friend gave us an el Dia de los Muertos quilt, there was a place to put it.

John, in your situation, I would pull out old favorites from the basement, to enjoy every day. If one doesn't seem right, you can always change it.

I am struggling with this as well. I have two empty walls perpendicular with my kitchen table.

yes, there is art in my kitchen but nothing will show up on this wonky day. food related would be nice, but mostly not. one friend used a print under glass behind her stove until she got a tiled backsplash.

Funnily enough, all of our kitchen art is from the PNW--two are fruit crate labels and one is a Nikki McClure print. (We have Share Your Table but there are a number that would be at home in a kitchen--and of course art doesn't need to be food-themed at all, but I like that ours is.) I also have a cookbook print from Ideal Bookshelf that I love and was supposed to go in the kitchen, but insanely ended up in our new bathroom instead because the colors matched. But her stuff is great--you can provide a list of books and she does custom drawings, so our cookbook print has all of our family's favorite titles.

Oh well. I’m painting the kitchen today, then will better be able to visualize what art might look good there.

I have a gallery wall in my kitchen. The rest of the space is taken up with cupboards, windows, and doorways.

We have a galley style kitchen that is open to DR and LR and ends in a 6’ wall. I had initially considered putting shelves there but found a different storage solution, so we went with a favorite piece of art that didn’t fit well in the new DR. I’m not a pro but I would advise against a gallery wall. Even if you’re disciplined about not leaving too much
stuff on counters, kitchens have a lot going on, and a gallery wall might create too much visual clutter. No to food art or farm animals— too much of a cliche. No to a mirror— who wants to look at themselves while cooking?!

Sadly I don't have a picture, but my Mom had a framed photo of the "Mad Bluebird" on the short wall of her little galley kitchen. It made her smile every day.

I'm convinced - will try hanging something there. Unfortunately my wall color is anything but neutral, but we'll see. I think I'll put a bit of picture rail up there to make it easier to change out the hangings.

SWMBO is going out of town soon, so maybe I should take the chance to hang up something fun and colorful that she'll promptly take down. Auto racing, something psychedelic, you know - juvenile stuff.

Art is fabulous in the kitchen. Choose something that makes you smile or reminisce or generally just feel happy emotions. We found a local artist to make this for us and I face it when I’m at my sink/prep area. Makes me happy every time I look at it.

I have a smallish framed picture on an easel in one corner of my kitchen. Art is always appreciated.

"Unfortunately my wall color is anything but neutral..." A large black and white (or several) might be fabulous! (But only if it means something to you / speaks to you in some way.) Mine are in a hallway rather than kitchen, but I have 3 8x10 black and whites that my Dad took before I was born so those pics are old. I love looking at them; one is from Navy Pier and another the Museum of Science and Industry from the 1940s or 50s. Those places look so different now and I love looking at the pics and remembering my dad.

PS - I love seeing everyone's art! You are inspiring me to think about what's next for a couple of my blank walls...

I love having things on the walls, in almost every room. These are in the kitchen.

Looking at the photo of my gallery wall, I realized that plant has outgrown the space...so brings up the point that it's easy to stop seeing things. (I removed and relocated it, btw). I have several gallery walls... being an artist plus having artist friends, plus inheriting my father's work...so not much wall space. That also is part of the decision...I need the display space in kitchen!

Yes...hang stuff that is fun, that you will enjoy, that is not just a decor wall filler! So great to see people's relationships to art here. I get depressed with the North American scene of buying wall filler art...ugh.

Okay, this is a problem. SWMBO objects to race cars or concert posters. She insists on more respectable art. So I will only get my bach-pad look for a month while she’s out of town, then it’s original paintings and suchlike. Sigh.

What’s on the wall it’s a very personal thing. If you share a space yes you need to compromise but there’s so much choice out there. There’s lots of interesting but “respectable” art…even if you go with reproductions. Surely you can find some common ground?

I am following because after our kitchen project we will also end up with a blank wall. For years we have had market food display photos we took from a trip to Spain, but I'll want a change when our kitchen project is done.

liasch, it was Agreed that the kitchen is 100% my domain as SWMBO has the entire rest of the house. Sadly, someone is not sticking to the bargain, so as usual I have to give way.

We have "acceptable" art, original paintings, etc to put up there. I just really wanted my racecars (insert pouty face). I will use her absence to put that up and see how big the explosion is.

I myself have most walls covered in art in our home. Vintage frames actually impress me as well. Gallery walls have become a love for me bc I like it all. I mainly tried to stay with themes but not always. I go for color combos and I like flowers very much and I guess birds have fit themselves in here. Our master bedroom was a bit of a challenge bc I too was wanting to keep us both happy. Lots of my pieces came from the attic of this old house we bought as the previous owner dabbled in oil painting and second hand stores some gifts as well. If it speaks to me, I hang it! And even rotate things around from time to time. Something you like will be enjoyed guaranteed!
