Getting there! Rug looks fantastic. That shade of green on toss pillows works wonderfully with used colors in rug. The navy toss pillows are throwing me off - they don’t seem to relate to anything in else blue in the room, repeat the blue (can be in various tints of blue) in at least 3 other textures (some ideas: blue throw blanket, blue coffee table books, blue books or other items in bookcase, blue pillar candles, etc). I can’t see the new corner vignette but think the tall lamp including shade may be too wide and overpowers the little side table - try raising the side leaf and turning the table 90* and please take a pic. The lamps in the room do not have to match but they should be about the same height. The lamp on round table is much shorter than the tall lamp, do you have a floor lamp instead?

Thank you, marylut! I do not currently have a floor lamp that would look good, but it’s on the “to buy” list as are a few new pillow covers and curtains. I am trying to nail the coffee table first. I will definitely rotate the console as you suggested and take more pics tomorrow when the lighting is better. I appreciate your input.

Marylut, as promised, I have taken pics with the table turned. I have also removed all navy accents from the room and wrapped a pillow in curtain fabric with complimentary colors to the rug. Do you think I’m getting warmer? I usually keep the curtains drawn for privacy, but I opened them so everyone could better see the colors. Thanks to everyone who contributes their time to this site.

Can that mirror in the corner be removed? I don’t think it’s needed there / not adding anything to the space.

Wendy, I am not married to the mirror staying there at all, and in fact, would like to move it to avoid any possibility of it falling. The problem is it is very heavy and I have nowhere else to put it. I will see if someone I know can use it.

When you’re ready look at half priced drapes. They have some great bargains. I have them all over my house, they do custom as well, in my den and kitchen I needed 90 inch length, and they made them for me, and I was able to buy matching non custom for other windows. You have a beautiful home great space to work with

What about a coffee table that is metal frame but glass in the middle? It will be less “massive” and the rug will be seen through it. Most of these have different color options. Just a couple of ideas:

RedRyder, I love the first one you posted! My daughter is a gymnastics enthusiast and is always turning cartwheels in the living room, so I worry about a glass top. I think that shape with a wood top would be absolutely perfect. Thanks for the suggestions. I’m going to see if I can find something similar with a solid top.

I would move that large sofa out of your beautiful bay window. That’s the first thing I would do. Then replace the skimpy, too short curtains. Amazon sells wonderful pillow covers at a great price!

Domianj..such a charming space! I do think a new larger rug would help with the overall look…white matching lamps…new pillows…I would not have pillows on every seat…just the sofa..and maybe the matching chairs to start..new throw…

I love the idea of embracing a more traditional cottage look....I love your coffee table! bringing in more white would be so beautiful and match the overall charm of the room..with the fireplace and bookcases and bay window you have all the right elements!

I think the room requires a larger coffee table in a darker finish or glass and metal, or an ottoman/coffee table if you live with 'feet up' in your room.

HIWE, I located all your pillow cover suggestions on Amazon. What sizes do you recommend? For example, on the long sofa, are you thinking 2 20x20 of a solid color and one or two of the print in 18 x 18 size? I would like to incorporate at least one printed pillow on that sofa if possible. Then 2 more solids for the chairs? Thanks for taking the guess work out of it. :)

I like all 20” pillows on sofas and 18” on chairs…but all combinations work just fine..have fun..if keeping your white coffee table I do think you need to incorporate a couple other white cottage style items in the room..lamps all white would be a great addition. maybe a all white knit throw...the book shelves are a great spot to add blue and brick/rust into the room so pretty with the white.

Rug is 9 x 12 (it came from another room, so free). Room could probably take larger, but it needs to stay for now to keep costs down.

Hmm would not add black lamps…I would wait until you decide on coffee table before picking new lamps…I would look at brass some kind of metal finish lighter rather than darker.

Here are a few of Nancy Meyer living rooms with a more country cottage traditional vibe..your rug adds warmth but darkens the room so keeping the other elements lighter would be my suggestion….Beverly and I both like the square coffee table..I like brass and she likes black…of course we can make both work…But this is what I see for your space.

@domianj - You have a beautiful home! And the pillows you selected will be very nice with your solid green ones. Although, I think the original pillows you had, the blues, etc. were very nice, also... You don’t necessarily have to be matchy-matchy with your throw pillows and rugs.

In fact, not matching per se can often lend more visual interest. So you can really have fun with it!

As an additional pillow idea - maybe adding in - or at times alternating your mix - with a couple of camel colored vegan leather pillows might also be fun. (I say vegan leather, mainly, because I’m a vegan. :))

If you are getting a floor lamp, you could add a touch of the mod - and mix things up a bit (if you wanted to).

I like the idea of a walnut type wood coffee table - or alternatively an ottoman coffee table. And the ottoman may really be the best idea for your gymnast daughter! I also like the idea of an oval shape on the table, if wood (as you can tell from these images I've posted). And these pics have all had solid colored pillows - but you can for sure do prints too - of course, of course!

Btw, if you like your sheers, why not just add in a few more panels, for a bit more fullness?

HIWE, I was originally hesitant to get a glass coffee table, but I sent my husband some of the mood boards and he likes the glass, so we will be ordering some variation on that. As you mentioned, Beverly and RedRyder also suggested glass with metal accents, so thanks all for that. My 8 year old will just have to do her cartwheels away from the coffee table. ;)

Hey guys! I’m back with a minor update. I came back from my trip and saw the space with fresh eyes and just wasn’t feeling the beige rug, so at the risk of giving everyone whiplash I switched back to the green rug. I also got a new floor lamp and moved it where Beverly originally suggested. I think it’s looking better, but I don’t think this room is going to ever look “right” without a bigger rug. I believe this room is 25 x 18 at the deepest point in the bay, but will get more exact measurements for rug help.

I still plan to buy a glass coffee table. I think where I really get held up is thinking about the drapes. I don’t know that I like the idea of a solid saturated color across all windows, but I’m afraid if I go gray, it will just wash things out more given the gray sofa and walls(sofa was very expensive so has to stay). So, I had a thought. What do you guys think of a patterned floral drape on a gray/cream background? This would add more interest without a big color shock. Perhaps with a sisal or more geometric rug?

I would think about adding a console table behind in the bay behind the sofa..with lamps just like the inspiration photo..so pretty gives that layered furniture look and great lighting over sofa instead of end tables.
