6” on each side, would make the hood 12” wider over all. Unnecessary, and overly large. The hood should be 6” larger…3” on each side. So, a 30” range should have a 36” hood above.

This applies to hoods mounted such that their bases are in the region of 30 to 36 inches above the cooktop. For higher mounts, generally not recommended unless one expands the front-to-rear dimension also, even wider hoods may be needed.

I assume the drawing is showing windows on each side, so there are no cabinet effects tending to duct spreading cooking plumes toward the hood (forming quasi side skirts).

I think an exception to this would be if the cooktop is induction and good airflow within the cabinet were needed to keep the cooktop electronics temperature down (and lifespan up). In such a case, wire pull outs make the entire cooktop base cabinet volume a source of cooling air and increased opportunity for heat transfer to the environment.

Yes, the extra 6" per side might be a bit of overkill, but based on the elevation, it looks better proportionally to the windows and side cabinets. Making the hood smaller will feel off, IMO. I'd actually think about increasing the size of your range to 36", so it doesn't looked dwarfed by the hood.

Oh, I don't know. I have IKEA base cabinets with inside wire baskets. There are benefits: (a) one can adjust/add/remove baskets if needs change over time; (b) it's easy to find stuff because because the wire allows one to see items both from above from the sides.

I think the larger hood looks nicer. Arguably you'd want more hood area if the windows are going to be open.

What is going in what look like 24" wide empty spaces on either end of the cabinet run? Anything? If nothing, might you (now, or later) move the cabinets to fit a larger range?

One advantage to pullouts behind doors is you can vary the height (spacing) of the pullouts to accommodate specific needs, without having weirdly varying drawer faces, and easily adjust the pullouts higher or lower in future. For example in my pantry cabinet, in one stack I have a pullout with 12" clearance above, for standing bottles, and another pullout with very little clearance, for little cans of cat food, but don't have to deal with drawers in that stack being totally mismatched to the drawers in the adjacent stack. If kitty switches to a different brand of food that comes in taller cans, I can just move that pullout down a couple holes.

There are the extra steps of opening one door, the other, then the pullout. Someone needs to invent a cabinet where opening one door automatically opens the other and the pullouts spring out with a touch, then automatically retract as you close the door. Maybe you just touch the door to open it, and the pullout nearest your touch point is the one that springs out.

Perhaps AI will predict what you want and open the appropriate drawer. It is 4 pm, the cat is meowing, footsteps approach, open the cat food pullout!

I agree about rollout drawers behind doors a waste of storage space and a PITA to use . As for the hood IMO too large and IMO in thta kitche a 36" range would have been better I have Ikea cabinets and can adjust drawer height to really be useable always with no need to be able to adjust since the wire rack have limitations too.Mine are the older Ikea but the drawers in the new line are really a way to customize every thing in the kitchen to firt what ever you want to store .
