Echo, please take a look at True Bloom True Inspiration by Ping Lim. You may know of or grow this rose already. It has more to offer than Mauvelous, IMHO. Many more petals, a silvery pink reverse, large blooms at 4", vigorous growth (contrary to the report on HMFR), strong necks and canes, healthy foliage....but lots of thorns, though, are what I have found it to demonstrate, 2 nd. year just finishing in my garden.

It's not a shrub rose in the Knock Out sense, definitely a HT, but producing 2-3 buds per stem 70% of the time and one per stem 30% OTT. It's very showy and draws you to it, no ho-hum rose, even though mass marketed. You get a 2 gal. size bush for about $33.00 on Amazon, delivered free with Prime. Can't go wrong. True Inspiration is also self cleaning, no hips so far, but if you want the best blooms, standard dead head pruning for a HT is best.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Cynthia. Since it has been out for a couple years and I haven’t seen or heard much about it I kind of assumed there was a reason why!

This may have been the J&P rose originally called Simply Marvelous. When I worked st J&P selling roses I would tend to get fed back from growers and that was never one with rave reviews.

According to HMF, Mauvelous and Simply Marvelous are different roses with different registration names. The pics also look different :-D

Do you prefer magenta to purple? Lavender Crush and Cosmic Clouds both have that sort of coloring too, but perhaps more often purple (which I prefer).

Ben, I personally prefer Magenta. Love the look of Cosmic Clouds and Lavender crush in their more pink tones. I really love their light reverse.

My only ”purples” are Twilight Zone and Celestial Night but they are decidedly more of a dark magenta blend to my eye in my climate

My advice Echo, is that if you have room to try out Mauvelous, get it. How it performs for others is important, but in your garden and under your growing conditions and care, Mauvelous may meet or exceed your expectations. You'll never know if you don't give it a try.

Older thread, but I impulse bought Mauvelous at an end of season sale last year.

I am also not impressed, but for different reasons.

It has grown quickly, and is putting out many blooms for it's first growing season in my garden. They are full sized and after the first day they do show the white reverse.

The problem is, the first day they open, they are almost red. I have no red flowers in my garden, it's my least favorite color. The bed it's in has a blue/purple and cool pink color scheme. Mauvelous stands out, and not in a good way.

I don't love it and I'm feeling like it's very likely to get moved to a far away spot in the back and replaced this fall.
