Did you have any art on the walls? Decorative pillows? A way to swap out the rug to add more color/pattern? The wall color isn’t battleship grey so that’s good. More photos of the whole space would help.

(On my screen they don't even look gray, but I'll take your word for it). I'd go read the many posts on her blog about the gray, as a place to start.

Just painting the walls is a great place to start. If budget is a concern, it's an easy diy, if time consuming, and relatively inexpensive for the dramatic change it provides.

The color is called Cumberland gap by Chelsea plank ( hickory ) I see yellow coming through , but it says it’s a slate grey stain.

Grey for days

The wood has a reddish undertone and the gray seems a nice complement. If you paint cream walls you will be dealing with pink and yellow undertones throughout to work with. Unless you like that.

Personally, I would keep the walls gray or paint them white, and add an accent color like Indigo or Denim for a velvet armchair, some throw pillows, art, etc.

Paint the walls white, not cream.

They make peel and stick vinyl tile for bathroom and kitchen floors that is easy to lay down on top of existing tile and lasts apparently for a number of years.

I don't see much gray in the floor, it looks more muted than gray. I do see some golden tones with the pinkish tones, but wood has those colors in it.
