I am finishing up my winter cleanup, hoping to get things done before snowfall later this week.

Not much going on here, I usually remove all the the hosta leaves after a good freeze and they turn to mush. No freeze yet and everything is wet so I haven't been able to get all the tree leaves up from the yard and garden. If it goes much longer I may have to wait until spring.

I do want to cover all my pots with chopped leaves but difficult to do when the leaves are real wet, they don't mulch well with the mower.

Been doing a fair amount of fishing, so lots of fuel for the compost, which the hostas will like in a few years.

I'm out every day moving piles around 😂..I collect sticks and leaves..I dump leaves here and there..when I run out of spots to dump leaves I'll put them next to the pile of sticks that we're going to chip..then we'll chip everything..

we did chip almost 5 hours one day last week..

Old_dirt, Lucky you to be able to catch your own fish. It’s so good when it’s fresh caught. And that it benefits your garden is even better.

I was able to get my fall bulbs planted, but beyond that I got zero cleanup done. I don’t know how time goes by so fast. We got six inches of snow the other day with only half melted off so far. So it’s icy, cold, and wet out there. I had such high hopes to get more done. I also have a blanket of leaves covering the beds and lawn. But some years are surprising, so I may get out there yet.

Is anyone else seeing how many people have been thrown off by (our American) Thanksgiving being later this year? I have a friend whose kids made reservations to be at her house this Thursday instead of next week, lol. Two families that didn’t check before making airline reservations. And another one whose hubby took the turkey out to thaw a week early. I guess it made me laugh because I was about to do the same thing until my DH pointed it out to me!

I’ve been working a lot, as usual. However, you may remember that I am also a camellia enthusiast. My garden is showing some good colors for the darkest, coldest season.

April Remembered is a wonderful, cold hardy camellia and feels so tropical.

Utog, It’s always good to see your Camelias in flower this time of year. I wrote off Camelias when I moved to z5, but now I’ve moved up to, at least, z6. I looked up April Remembered, and it’s such a pretty pink. But alkaline soil is not their preference, so I’ll have to continue to live vicariously through yours.
