I think you need a proper hanging framework, the overhead structure frame is not supportive enough to hang body weight on.

I sure would not sit in that and I am not big . If you must then call the pool builder who constructed the frame to see what would work

The aluminum framework is designed to handle the weight of screening material, not people.

Your hammock chair requires a ground supported frame. That will be steel.

Consider getting hubby a deluxe chaise lounge or gliding sofa. Much more flexible to move when wanting to rearrange pieces around the pool.

The structural frame fort the screen cage is for designed for the loading of a screen cage, not the lateral loads of a hammock with people. It WILL pull the walls down, not if, only when.

I would not hang anything from my aluminum pool cage ... unless the company that designed and built it had engineered it to handle a hanging load from the ceiling beams.

OK—then suggestions for a hammock and stand? That holds person about 190 lbs and 6’1” tall?

A clamp wont hold anything. It would have to be bolted and that would bend and break the aluminum.

Not everywhere in the US, only certain locales call it that.

Get something you can stow or give it up for a really comfortable chair and ottoman. Or a hanging basket chair and an ottoman.

Well what is it called in other parts of the country? I have always known it as a lanai . I think that the term came about post mid century and , of course, its origins are from Hawaii.

Florida room, or lanai, are defined much the same with a modern lanai being enclosed in screen. I understand that a lanai originally was a covered area but not enclosed and that was the differnce between the two. But words change in reference over time.

I'm in FL when describing the space as a room you call it lanai ... let's go sit out in the lanai.

No, I am 73 and have never heard that term. Actually I was not really familiar with the term "lanai" until our son took to living in Florida . It was not part of my reality as I never lived with a large area enclosed in screen like that. I like the idea.

I wonder when did it come about that this is so popular in Florida. I suspect that the modern day lanai is probably fairly a modern concept.

I alwasy heard the term "florida room" as referring to a screened room, a tropical version of the screened porch. I do have a screened back porch. I love to have an area that is a between place like that.

A bit of research turns up that this idea was,, essentially, brought to the mainland after WWII on the merits of some upscale home design and then it was imitated in more middle class houses. It was traditionaly a roof and no screens, in Hawaii. Things evolve.

I love the one at my sons house. It keeps the bugs away, for the most part and that inbetween in and out is so pleasant

I dont like Florida, though. Have no desire to relocate there. I think that the most interesting part of Florida is the interior. Florida has a fascinating history! All manner of wierd and crazy has trapised back and forth across that pennisula! For a very long time! It has lots of interesting quirks in its history. Most seem to think it is all the coast. What a history!

My dad was born deep down in the Florida swamp in the 1920s. Gangsters such as Capone had operations going on back in there and they threatened anyone with gunfire if you got too close. You would be surprised to learn what darkness took place back in there.
