Flex Room / Sitting Room / with a TV - HELP

last modified: 6 months ago

The house came with a Flex room Dimensions: 10feet Wide by 11 feet Long , wall height 96 inches / windows is 60 inches wide, beige carpet , white walls

There is heater vent behind sofa, and that wall has two outlets and each end the other outlet is behind the blue chair and 1 more behind the white cabinet

I thought I can just use as a extra sitting room / conversation room separate from Living Room,. I want to add a TV because sometimes, football in living room. When our 4 year old niece wants to watch something different - .

Just got this sofa , and ottoman and chair - thought they would all go - guess not

I love the sofa color - My first attempt to do something. I love odd pieces -

Not sure about the white cabinet for TV -I can move elsewhere

Originally I had yellow chair , navy blue chair and other coffee tables and other ottoman and took them out-

(I can move these pieces to other rooms, or basement )

This is the first space someone sees when they walk - Not sure if any of my pieces go

The sofa seems to fit but I can remove everything else out - the space is small but I'm open

Thank you !

    1. How many people will be using this room at one time? And, will everyone be watching TV? If it is only one or two people and they will always be watching TV, just have the sofa and don't get extra chairs. This space isn't that big.

    2. If you are keeping the sofa, the height of all other furniture needs to be based off of that. It is a low piece. I'd hang the TV on the wall and put a ledge below it, or a very low cabinet if you absolutely need cabinet storage. If you need a chair, it has to be a low rider too, same with the coffee table.

We need unity and cohesion here! A room goes together well if it has several elements in common. If you buy items that you think will go together (just becuase they are the same color) that is not necesarily the case. You may just end up with random bits and peices of furniture that don't go together (which may be the case here - in your room). My style taste is classic / eclectic. I bring it together with classic peices and similar colors. I always buy a light blue couch with a slight pattern and a dark blue velveteen chair in a matching style. The problem with getting trendy peices is that the room may not look put together. It may just look like there are a bunch of items thrown together with the hope of them fitting in. A better strategy is to have an overall plan before buying or doing anything. Trendy peices only work if you are very careful in curating a room. Your tall chair is trendy because the legs are not classic to the chair. The chair itself is trendy as well. It looks very uncomfortable. As a woman who is 5 foot tall, heavy, and getting older, I certainly would not chose to sit in it if I were to visit your place. Educate yourself with the definitions of furniture. What is modern? What is trendy? What is classic? What is mid century modern? A relative of mine loves trendy peices. She buys a new cheap couch every few years. Her cats scratch them up and she covers up the couch with a throw. I used to have cats. I love them, but no more pets for me. I have a custom made classic couch. I see furniture as a long term investment. My last couch lasted ten years. My current one is custom, so I plan on having it last for 20 years. The point I'm trying to make is that different people have different views of cost and style of their furniture. Furniture has a lot of roles to play. It is a place for you, your family, and friends to get together. It may last a certain number of years that you determine. You may have a certain budget in mind for your furniture. Your furniture and room needs a well-thought out plan.

I totally agree a space is put together with a lot of thought and IMO comfort is big deal for TV watching and that sofa not at all.

Too many little pieces of furniture. It looks like a space to seat three people comfortably.

remove everything from the room but the sofa. Hang TV on wall perpendicular to the window and balance with a low credenza wider than the TV. Place sofa across from the TV. Add a patterned swivel chair with curved lines to the left of the TV, actually one on the right as well as long as they are smaller in scale, yet can accommodate an average size male. A modest size ottoman with a tray in front of sofa instead of a coffee table. Then, based on space evaluate if you need side tables, lamps, etc. This would give you seating for 4 - 5 people. Upgrade window treatment to top down-bottom up shades or blinds to control light and soften with drapery panels hung close to the ceiling. Last, but not least, interesting yet simple, wall decor. Ta-da, I just spent all your money 😉. Have fun with this.

Here's a visual of my suggestions which include:

    - Wood end tables with white top and lamps

    - Curtains in the same tone as the rug

    - Place your blue armchair at an angle pushed more towards the corner

    - Replace the patterned pouf with 2 natural fibre ones

    - Accent pillow on the sofa

    - A tall plant in the corner

    - A floor lamp next to the armchair

    - Hang a single or a set of 3 framed art

    - Place some decor on the coffee table

I like everything but the sofa, why must it stay? It needs to be neutral, and bigger. It looks so tiny.

I know you just bought the sofa but as tracefloyd mentioned that sofa look tiny and an odd style. Based on the price you paid for the blue sofa, I'm presuming you don't have a big budget so if you plan on replacing it, here's one that's not expensive that is 70 inches long:

    Note:

My main suggestion is that you plan your future purchases carefully.

Have a plan and follow it, don't just buy on a whim!

You could get an entertainment center. Something with doors to close off the TV and wires. This is a first impression being right at the foyer and the TV facing the front door.

In order to make valuable and related to your room suggestions, it would be nice if you can post pictures showing the entire room, all 4 walls.
