Need Help Finishing My Dining Room

last year

Hi Houzz Community,

This is my third time reaching out for advice on finishing my dining room. I feel like I’ve been stuck in this process and have no idea how to continue or finish. I’m considering replacing the dining table, updating the curtains, or adding a rug to give the space a fresh look. Currently, the dining table is placed under the chandelier.

I want the space to feel more homey and cozy while also having a touch of luxury. However, I don’t plan to change the sofa or the TV placement.

I’ve attached pictures for reference and would greatly appreciate your suggestions!

Thank you in advance for your help!

For homey and cozy, first you need rugs! One with the sectional and one under the dining table. Are you wanting to keep everything light, soft, and neutral like the space currently is?

For the curtains, I would definitely hang them higher. I think you could even do a heavier texture; maybe even a velvet (could do a latte color or creamy white). Hang them quite a bit higher than your windows; normally up close to the ceiling but with the bump out you may have to go 8-10 inches up.

Now for the dining wall; a large scale artwork could make a big difference here. After that, it's just layering additional things to add more personality and texture: throws, pillows, items on the coffee table. I also think you need some cozy lighting; try an end table and table lamp next to the sectional (or a floor lamp instead).

Thank you so much for the thoughtful suggestions—they’re really helpful!

Yes, I’d like to keep everything light, soft, and neutral, just like the space currently is.

For the large-scale artwork, what colors would you recommend, and how big should it be to make an impact on the dining wall?

Regarding cozy lighting, where exactly would you suggest placing the end table and lamp (or floor lamp)? On which side of the sectional? If possible, could you send me a picture or example for inspiration?

For the rugs, what texture, color, and size would work best for the sectional area and under the dining table?

Thanks again for your guidance—I really appreciate it!

Didn't you post this exact same question before and get a ton of answers? Did you try any of them? If not, why not?
