The idea with using oriental rugs is that they used to be all hand knotted and therefore all different and unique ... buying the same rug in different sizes kind of destroys that illusion! Different rugs can be mixed and matched. It just needs a bit more thought.

Also if you don't really love the rugs your mother bought, it isn't a great idea to base the rest of your decorating on something you wouldn't have bought yourself ... the end result is rarely a happy one!

I totally agree on all points! But she helped me buy my house & I'm so appreciative, is rather use them for a while to make her happy :-)

These are the rugs selected. A polyester rug that is likely going to pill after you vacuum the rug a few times.

Are you sure you want to purchase drapery that are likely going to be $$$$ to go with rugs that are very inexpensive & likely will need to be replaced within a year?

Which color do you want your draperies to be? Grey, Violet Blue or Peach? Plain blue is never going to work because the rug leans blue violet.

What about the other items in your room like the seating? What color is the seating.

I like the last pair. It’s lovely. I might say pinch pleat may give you that fuller luxury feel you’re looking for too!

Thanks Ms Beverly!!! My sofa & recliner are dark gray. I like all the rug's colors, in person the background color is a tinge more silvery blue than gray I think, but I'm obviously no decorator lol. I remember from art class that peach/orange is opposite blue on the color wheel so that makes it complementary. But because the rugs are cheap & won't last forever like you said, maybe I should go with a more neutral color?

If that leather sofa is the seating you will be using, I would NEVER COMBINE dupuoni or fake silk draperies with a sofa that is that casual!!!! Those drapes for a more chic, glam or traditional environment.

I'd select either solid drapes or ones with a pattern.

Got it, thanks! So in terms of what I'm trying to match, the curtains should be dark gray to match the sofa not the colors in the rug? I was also thinking about silk roman shades, would that change your no silk rule? I like raw silk with slubs if that makes a difference :-)

You could select patterned blue drapes if you can find them but,……….these rugs are not staying long term and your replacement rugs could be a contemporary pattern instead of Oriental. For shades I’d recommend woven woods or matchstick instead of raw silk. You can’t see the texture of the raw silk if you’re standing 2 feet away from them. Woven wood shades texture can be viewed from the next room. Any room with a recliner is CASUAL in style.

IMO a nice linen drape is a better choice and Amazon has tons in colors and I agree no silk with that furniture at all. I would probably look for a gray not a blue but really the rugs do not suit the furniture and so you need to really speak up or deal with the mismatch. I would never buy my kids a decor item like rugs not matter how much I want to help . Luxury does not come to mind with that furniture, casual yes

Thanks so much y'all!!! So when Mom's rugs wear out, what color rugs & curtains would you suggest? Linen is pretty but I thought I wouldn't go with the gray leather sofa & black light fixtures?

Can the rugs be returned, as I’m sure your mom wants you to be happy and would prefer knowing (especially since there are three that you have to decorate around even though each space may not suit). I helped my daughter for 8 months to furnish and decorate her first home and when she let me know she wasn’t a fan, I was glad to know.

If they are returned, suggest choosing based on complementing each space, but having connection. (If keeping, looks like you are getting lots of advice.)

Suggest drapes with texture (to comp the leather) and Ikea has linen like drapes at a great price and rods (suggest black). A neutral is adaptable to color scheme changes/feels lighter and just inject pops of color with add art and cushions.

Wow they really do thanks!!! I wish I had decorating talent like all of you do. I'd also love to have plants inside but one of my cats tries to eat them every time lol.

Nothing wrong with neutral linen drapes. Then you won’t have to change them when you switch the rugs to something you prefer. The big choice would be white or ivory.

Some good faux plants can be purchased online.
