You can do better displaying the blue/white porcelain don't you think?

Paint everyhing the same color white.

I would paint it. Cannot not see the surrounding area but the last picture shown by @BeverlyFLADeziner is a nice example of bringing a wood tone in the chairs.

That depends. Does the brown relate to anything else in the room? Is it the same wood tone as the floor or other furnishings? Without seeing the whole outfit it is tough to say what color shoes you should wear.

It would be helpful if you added a photo from further back so we can see the surrounding area.

White and alot less in the shelves and some just not displayed at all I love the blue and white pieces and IMO you degrade them with all the other STUFF that really does not need display. I love Beverly's idea of all white and just the blue and white pieces.

Oooh love your blue and white. Yes paint could work... Or maybe paint the back part of the shelves a bright color to make your blue pieces pop even more.

I’d paint it the same color as the lower cabinet and to create more impact…less is more. If interested….start by only adding the pieces that work well with each other to create balance and breathing room. Suggest: top left - only the low bowl/flowers centered. Next level - two vases. Top right - the two matching pieces and look for a low bowl. Next level - set of 3 spread out. You can then test nice books on their sides here and there.

The surface should tie in with the shelves and then try the Toby mugs and clock.

Do you have any other wood in the same space?

I love the idea of highlighting the blue and white. And, IMO, that area and composition of items does not do the flag justice. I have two such flags and they are in a place of honor. At times, I place photos around the flags, but no dishes, etc.

Paint them white.

I actually really like it…is their any way a accent molding could be added on the top..I saw your post and had just saved this image on pinterest…love it!
