I would start with much better lighting and then where do these lead ? I love halways leading to bedrooms for family pics it is the perfect spot . I like all one size frame and the pic distorsts the space so we need to know how much space you have between the wall trim and the bottom of the windows If you did the pics as I mentioned you could do a nice simple LED track light with a few heads to light up the pics Are there windows on both sides of both halways ? Is this actaully in a home or an aprtment bldg.. For me the wall trim does not add anything and I would remove that.

I would paint the walls & ceiling of just the hallway the same color white you have painted the trim. Add an interesting runner and a gallery wall of like frames.

I personally would paint the ceiling and the door at the end of the hall for interest.

Since you have the wainscot/molding on the lower part of the walls and the high windows, you don't really have a lot of wall area, and what you do have isn't plain. I would look at runners.

The first hall is tough because of the transom windows. I would paint you wainscot centers the same as the trim and get a nice chair rail piece on top. It looks unfinished with the 2 tone.

Then I would put in some beautiful lights and a nice runner.

For the second hallway - do the same but add some art work.

I think in both I would consider removing the trim on the transoms and do something as minimal as possible. It looks a bit bulky.

I'd paint all of the trim the same color as the wall. You will still see the raised effect of the trim but not have the dizzying, busy striated look of the trim and wall color contasted. (If you love seeing white here then do as Debbi suggested and paint the center of the squares white.

The pics may be distorting, but both halls look very long and skinny. I would not hang art here - too busy. I'm a big fan of simple runner and fantastic light fixtures in a hallway. Semi--flush or hanging lights really give a nice sense of repeat and take your eye to what is further down the hall.
