last modified: 9 months ago

Please share your K daylilies today. Just three K’s for me.

kissed by Moonlight a very nice bitone. It enjoys full sun here.

Kansas Kitten hasn’t been prolific here. Hopefully the new spot will improve the performance.

Kennesaw Mtn. Lemon Sorbet is new to the garden, first blooms last season. I hope it does well here.

Sherry: I grew Kansas Kitten the year of the great rust outbreak. Just as I thought I was done pitching rusters, up popped the rusty spots on KC. Out it went.........I only have one K and it has blooms with consistent symmetrical form as well as being very colorfast and sunfast. I have very few patterned daylilies by preference but this is a keeper for me:

Sherry: I really like KISSED BY MOONLIGHT.

Maryl: KISS YOU IN THE MORNING is really attractive. Never heard of it.

KIM'S LAUGHTER: This one came home with me from my visit to COTTAGE GARDENS

Here is KIM'S LAUGHTER at clump strength at COTTAGE GARDENS. It just stood out to me from a distance in the mid late garden.

KINGDOM WITHOUT END at Cottage Gardens

These are all the K's that I photographed last year.

Sherry - Good to see Kissed By Moonlight looking good for you! I think Kennesaw Mtn. Lemon Sorbet is really pretty. I hope it will do well for you.

Brad - Kirsten's Corsage is so pretty! I'm amazed that you got a near white out of Kent's Favorite Two.

David - Kim's Laughter looks like a great yellow.

Maryl - I always like your picture of Kiss You in the Morning.

Kingdom Without End has a striking bloom but never multiplied well for me in Nashville. We'll see if it does better here.

Kiss of Paradise is a good multiplier but was always much shorter than registered in Nashville.

Debra, Kingdom Without End is indeed a striking bloom!

I too am amazed at the near white from Kent. There are several whites in the same bed, Joan Sr., Ice Carnival and a couple others not so white. . There is also this one, number 4. Also a couple of different pale pinks..

Kiss You in the Morning and Kansas Kitten are my favorites of these. You all know I love an eyed daylily.

Here is an unregistered daylily known as 'Kaskel's Best Edge'. It has been used my hybridizers to achieve the big ruffled yellow edges. We used to grow it in the greenhouse because it is supposedly tender. We have cut down on the number of daylilies we overwinter in the greenhouse and this was one that was thrown out. It survived the winter of '23-'24. We'll see how it weathers this winter.

As you might imagine, Key West Sunset is one of Bob's favorites. It was hybridized by a guy in Indianapolis.

King Crab is another we love.

Kiss of Paradise is one of the earliest to bloom in our garden. It is probably on its way out, though. It is short and its flowers are sometimes erratic in shape.

Krakatoa Katie was disappointing last season. It's supposed to be a double, but this little extra tissue on this one was the most double it got.

    That's all for me.

Sherry, I love Kennesaw Mt. Lemon Sorbet!

David, Kim’s Laughter is my kind of color and bloom. Love it!

Debra, It will be interesting to see if Kingdom Without End performs better for you-it is a striking bloom.

Maryl, I can see why Kiss You In The Morning stays with you. Brad, Kirsten’s Corsage is always so pretty.

Nan, the oranges have it! What bright standouts.

    Keepsake Rosie has been pretty

    Kazoo

    Kierabel-I do like this one

Kensington Plantation has been a pleasant surprise

Kara Louise is usually a vibrant red -I noticed this was taken at 6:08 am so I think that accounted for the darker color

    Here is an afternon look

David: I like both of yours, but in particular Kim's Laughter. What a great clump shot. I look forward to seeing it posted again this season.......Brad: Karen's Curls is my pick of these. I like the color combo.........Debra: I miss your Kentucky Lucky. David's clump shot of his yellow reminded me of the masses of blooms you used to get on Kentucky Lucky. I hope you get that back. Kingdom without End looks good, but Emmerichs can struggle here over winter with my pot system so I don't load up with them. If I only had a greenhouse (sigh).........Nan: I've heard Kaskel's Best Edge mentioned before because of it's edge for hybridizing. I love yellow edges on pink daylilies. I didn't realize it wasn't registered though. I hope it survives for you outdoors. I know that if I had a greenhouse it would be loaded with plants, and I'd still have to leave some outside over winter........Kate: I like your Keepsake Rosie and Kara Louise still looks nice in the PM, but the AM color is so lush and velvety looking.............Maryl

Maryl - Kentucky Lucky was one I definitely planned to bring. Nancy in KY has a piece of it, so if I don't find a source for it this year, I can eventually get a couple of fans back from her. Here are some photos of KL from last season.

Kentucky Lucky hasn't been a stellar performer here, but the last two seasons have been difficult in that area. Kaskel's Best Edge is in the genes of Existential Avatar (through Mission Control). This past year was a good one for EA. I do have Kiss You, but so far, not vigorous here (too soon to evaluate). Parent Mountain Wildflower is a bummer here, but we shall see.

King Crab is a good earlier one, but slow multiplying (as hybridizer notes).

Keep the Faith is an older Emmerich.

I agree that Kingdom Without End is not a fast multiplier.

Katherine Caldwell is over 6 inches here, an early bloomer. Not a fast multiplier.

Kingdom Bound is an ornate M/L bloomer from Emmerich (no surprise).

Mantis: I like the color on Katherine Caldwell if not the form.....My original Kiss You in the Morning took 3 years to fill out and although it's fine for my pot system, it is not overly tall. Oddly enough, a division from it that I took a couple of years ago had really wonky leaves on it by this fall. They looked alright in spring so not spring sickness as I understand it. The leaves stayed low to the ground and tightly packed as if they had some sort of virus. I've not heard of anything like that in daylilies. Anyway, I ditched the plant just in case it was ground zero...........Debra: It will be interesting to see the difference in plants grown in Nashville versus Indianapolis (is it Indianapolis?). I hope Kentucky Lucky is one that still performs for you. Funny how we see others daylilies as an extension of our own garden and look forward to them every year.........Maryl

Mantis - I was always surprised Kentucky Lucky wasn't a good performer for you. It was pretty consistent over many years for me.

Maryl - Yes, I am in Indianapolis.
