The wood grain that they are now. I would never paint those cabinets, they look great as is.

If your goal is to brighten the space, I’d try to match a tone from your floor.

I'd sample a cream, looks nice with black countertops, But I would also paint the walls and ceiling the same color... so many options, you just need to sample and see what works in your space, your lighting, your style.

I'm in the camp of not painting.

That kitchen is gorgeous. I would not paint the cabinets. I would get some black hardware and update the light fixtures and that's it. Add a prep sink to the island if you can.

Did you just redo the floors? Probably wouldn't have been my first choice with those cabinets, which is unfortunate. I would use runners.

IMO thye are not beautiful they look like a really bad staining job was done before . I have no idea why all the pendant lighting and I never like an accent tile for behind a stove . I would start by changing all the bulbs in all the lighting to LED 4000K then see how everythng looks You need a ton more pot lights . I can't see the whole space but with what oyu have I would prbably look into refinishing the wood and get rid of the staggered height cabinet on the window wall.

We just redid the floors. The floors now go with the rest of the house- just not the kitchen- which we will redo eventually. I just want to paint them to get us thru the next couple of years so it doesn’t look like an outlier with the rest of my house. Please let me know what paint color would look best! Thanks :)

If the floor is new and you’re keeping it then I would follow the advice from @ffpalms and @Lyn Nielson and choose your wall & cab color based on what complements the floor - it is a large surface in the room

to get through a couple of years???? too big and too expensive. . Do a color at the island.......it is large and youll get rewarded w a change there. money saved....get better pendants and lighting in general. I would remove the small ones at the window and place ceiling can lights . I would get a bolder fixture or a multiple of pendants above the island ....dealing w the large island will create a big change and you save a lot. The perimeter is not offensive and will recede if you change island elements. I would actually consider a different top for the island but you seem to like the shiny black material.

paint the island..... leave stained cabinetry elsewhere. More impactful lighting will help.
