Help me design this TV wall please!!!

last year
last modified: last year

Help me redesign this TV wall space! We bought this lovesac and I built a table for lamps behind which I love, but now I can’t stop hating the TV wall. I believe I need a taller TV stand and to mount the TV.
*Tv is 58”. Current stand is 21”H 57”w.
What do you think?

Color of furniture, textures, etc. How do I work around this wall that has the door to the basement, thermostat, and smoke detector? What am I missing? Do I paint, add some wall moulding? What ideas do you have?

**Please see the whole room. Although there are other things I’d like to change with artwork, all is staying for now as TV wall is the priority. Also, I don’t love the current stand enough to try and add legs because it is HEAVY and I’d love maybe a little more storage for kids junk.

Thank you!!!

Jan. my design and comedic relief. The Love sac actually has nice off white fabric- just keep them covered with blankets for typical daily use to keep from having to wash so often-my fingers bleed of pain when I have to take them off to wash!! do not recommend! oooof. and this thing won't fit in the basement. no way. shouldn't have bought it or should have got a different layout most likely. lived and learned that. but it was before I met you! maybe new color covers is a good idea.

Yes, we want to grow up the toy room- but not sure it will be so soon? I love this plan though and know this kitchen end of the space is not how it is to be used forever. Good idea on moving the sentimental art/photo frames. Maybe to the dungeon in his hideous office?LOL

I love the TV stand style. I can fit 4 units- but 3 might lend more room to the plant and not hugging the step? DH is lobbying to bring up the 75" TV up from the basement.

As always- THANK YOU! Changing out basement lights tomorrow and saving these links for when I'm ready to grow up some more!

Tell me how that DOESN'T fit in the basement?

It's Lovesac and it comes apart!

It didn't come into the house the way it is, that much is certain.

If three Nathan cabinets go on the wall they take up 93".....of 162" , four uses up 125 ish of 162 inches,

Toys ( and by the way what are the AGES of the kids.....) can go INTO the cabinets. Along with books .

What was the purpose for the BASEMENT....? It's got a huge tv, for what reason. You're changing lights, dolling it up for what reason?

This is the room just off your foyer, despite unlike your "new" dining room, it isn't in your face as you enter!

Every time you have friends in for whatever, you want to go down into the basement?

You said....."" I want the couch right at the foot of the stair, so I can see/hear what is going on down there"........................................

    "

Just asking, as the house has NOT got a way to have the room that is the dining room, allow that sectional, the piano, to coexist gracefully, and doesn't allow a remotely decent table IN your kitchen. All you need to know all that is a scroll to waaaaaaaaaay back.

The lovesac is 128" across. It came in boxes, yes! With the pole being the way of, and trying to have a table down there as well, plus the rug will look too small with the lovesac... and the budget doesn't currently allow for many other purchases besides a tv and console, it seems like the sofas should stay in their current locations? yes i'm regretting buying this darn big thing but it was $$$ so we likely won't be getting rid of it and buying something new.

I have the Nathan cabinets marked off on the floor- 4 will not allow room for the tree on the left end AND the tv being centered on the wall/above the cabinets without it being wall to wall crammed. . Another consideration is the step feels like a tight walkway with a cabinet right up up against it. Hoping 3 looks big enough scale? am i overthinking? probably...it's who i am LOL.

Kids are 11,9,6. and they're the BEST!

Purpose for the basement was to have a better function, and to allow for a more multiuse space- games, videogames, crafts, dad hair cuts for kids, etc-not at my kitchen table anymore! and out of sight! And so kids can go down there to have their own space and give me some quiet ;) I don't WANT to go into the basement per se, but I'd like to be able to go down there and have somewhere to sit that isn't on the floor if other people are on the couch- oh and not have it be lame and underused- and now I have that!

The lighting I'm replacing it with is not fancy- as you're right- it's a basement...and not worth lots of $$$. I'd rather save it for a vacation :)

    I'm scrolling........trying to be a good student!!!

    Math..........

I said do "either three or four".?Three leaves 34 inches both sides of center!!

A 75 inch tv over the cabinets.

Don't tell me there isn't another space for the "sentimentality" over the couch.....?: ) and if a 'Love letter" to you and kids, clearly hand made all ( I GET it )..... A primary bedroom has walls. ( I can't read it )

But it's an eye in your face wall, and the "collection" is too small, and you already have a gallery wall in the dining area!

You asked " What can I do"so I am answering the query.

!!!!!! . Try not to shoot the messenger....

The single best value here? Is to bite a bullet and add hardwood, ditch that wall to wall.

You can not, on a restricted budget, do an entire house in nine months.

What you DO need to do? Realize, yet again with just a visit to your "new" dining are, that the most impact, comes from LESS!

I am all for "family". But you have to know when to stop. It is not all "art" and too much of it clutters your walls and denies you color and proportion.

This area? Someone shoot the builder.

With the furniture you now own? The single BEST for this, is a nice big round table and four chairs. ART!!! Please! some color! NO MORE WEENY family! I understand you love them! They're in your house! You see them daily!

    Go back here.......?

A 52/ 54 inch diameter table. Are there more perfect concepts? Yes...........but not yet, for you

because it requires an upholstery expense, .

You have a lifetime ahead of you. Just sayin......

Your next mission is that floor unity

Finally put together my new console. The 75" tv is coming up from the basement and being mounted above here this weekend!

Thoughts on a style for a taller floor lamp left front corner to bring some height- and style for console table behind/kitchen side of sofa?

That's a nice start that's looking pretty good but maybe a taller lamp on the floor you said next to the couch unless that's an end table at that end and a lamp on it then it might be okay long as you can read with the light

I’m baaaack! look what finally came down @JAN MOYER:)

I’m trying hard to finish this space. Bought a taller corner floor lamp- is it too dark or is it cohesive? Can’t decide if I like the end table I picked up today. or is the lamp shade too stark white? I can’t figure it out. lastly, you can see I’ve taped for a coffee table. I think round is the right choice but has to be 36” or less. only 58” between chaises. Give me your thoughts please on any or all of it!

The floor lamp don't look too bad but I was thinking of A Whiter Shade that would been nice and the little end tables to short for the arm of the couch you could always use it on the window side that little table for that ottoman area and I like that little table

    Marie thanked happyleg

You need at least 18 in around the coffee table to be some people like a little smaller one than that that they would have 20 in

    • I love the new TV and console!
    • Love the ficus plant!
    • Not loving the curtains with the wall color--they just seem off. They are near neutrals that don't work together.
    • You need some framed prints or photos over the sofa. Something with color.
    • Even a 36" coffee table is going to be tight in that space between the chaise longues.
    • The floor lamp is too small for the scale of the sofa.
    • Ditto for the end table and lamp.

@BeverlyFLADeziner love the coffee table suggestions- do you have links for those?

@Diana Bier Interiors, LLC ty! i love my tv wall now too :)

curtains were a big investment that ill have to leave but appreciate the feedback!

yes art is next - so hard to find something for the scale i need. thinking a 3 set as one big piece is nearly impossible to find in person. thinking an abstract? or something with texture.

I too wonder if 36” might be too big. but again, want the right wood color and its not easy.

ok maybe i need a thicker floor lamp?

i do love the new table with the marble and warmth but not sure its big enough

You CAN NOT have both ottomans!!!!

and a coffee table. They render the coffee table a total WASTE of money!

You have 58" and even allowing aonly 15" to get in and out? Means a 28" inch round cocktail in the midst of overwhelming upholstery, destined to look like like a crowded soccer ball.

That upholstery is LOVE SAC. You have ottoman to create a chaise at will.

I get that everyone wants their feet up. But them together,( long side when butted!! parallel to the couch and move on. Put a tray on them for snacks. Or just go to BED!

Art above the couch should use up 65% of the length - can be THREE hung tightly together to tell a story, or ONE big one.

What is the arm height/back of couch? My guess is 30 inches. Side table need to be close to that height, and you won't easily them. Answer? A PAIR of standing lamps.....and use the tray, or snack and drink.....elsewhere.

Lamp on table? Return...too dinky, too lightweight in scale

AT some point, the entire first floor needs a paint job. You've done a great job wirking with it.......it isn't as noticeable elsewhere, but the rug and carpet make it send off a panty hose shade here, Notice I said, at some point.

Before that? The flooring needs to be continued from the other side, and then you do some rugs and pick a color from whatever that is: )

Again........ the battle between feet up and a table you can style? Emphasize battle and just ONE reason I like a chair and an ottoman, but then of course we run into, but EVERYONE must sit straight on to the tv. .........................................................

So we make ugly mosh pits.: )

Actually, in the very olden days, it is why Mom had a good looking living room, and then there was the "den". Too small to put your feet up in there, and couldn't walk or pass through her living room. Lest youi destroy the vacuum marks.

Decades later? We still haven't solved it- other than the mosh pit program.

See this is why I need @JAN MOYER in my life. i can live without a coffee table. sofa arm height is 28.5. taller is definitely harder to find.

is two of these lamps on both sides of the couch a good option? instead of side tables? they have a little larger shade than the current floor lamp i have.

PSA to everyone here: do not paint your entire house Simplify Beige before selling because the new owners will hate it. Its me- I’m the new owner 😜

good news though- the other 4 ppl here love a mosh pit!

off to search for lamps, art and a new tray!

    I thought that...just didn't say anything! :)

good advice already - not a pro but just a vote for some side tables and chunky lamps to stand up to the scale of the couch (my go to is the Serena lamp from room & board)

A very large canvas could be nice behind the couch - they have them on Etsy and Anthropologie has them also

    Okay.......... Listen up.

You want the PROPORTION OF THIS:

Write it down. Here's what you do, and WHY.

You're going to make your own side tables, to perfect couch side height.

You're going to get TWO table lamps, How TO do above?

    Like this:

Buy two sets of these, Amazon/that gives you 8 legs, 27 1/2 inches high

    Then you need tops!!

Pick your stain,, I did black for this purpose, you do you.

Whatever crappy device you are on, finger spread, as I have noted the size of the boards.

Then you need a pair of lamps..........Your single BEST bet, unless you want to walk a thousand miles of Home Sense ? The "Color Plus" line @ Lumens..

I will explain. Never in 34 years of this business, have I seen the price of sheer garbage in lighting soar to these prices. I mean never. You need 400 bucks for absolute crap. That amount used to buy you drop dead gorgeous. As little as three years ago, 600.00 would get you designer picky Visual Comfort, or Arteriors , To last a life time.

So........You you are going to have to shake out a few moths. You can not FOREVER keep buying the low end of everything, or you will simply end with a house full of junkola.

Pick an accent color for the damn room. I care not, but maybe a green. I have used this Color Plus , and better yet? Incandescent light!

( hang on one sec- on this below? Have used it, Great lamp, 381.00, used to be HALF that, Uttermost) and it was favorite "cheat/cheap of mine)

But you are not going to want to spend that much.........Continue..

Color PLUS and more colors on at least three styles than exist in the rainbows, Every shade of every color you can think of. Lumens, com

Wexler - there are a ton of other colors........and more greens, but green IS a neutral, just look out the window. Everything God made works with green : ) Including your turd color carpet, and panty hose tone walls.

Also JUST FINE? Pottery Barn, but you buy shades separately, ( medium drum in sand 0 and that adds 59.50 to the 249.00 . See what I mean? Hard to skin a CAT!!

So with Wexler Lamp and create your own perfection?

That equal 832.00 for two PERFECT side tables and two lamps, and a perfectly proportioned "frame" for art above the couch..

    ( EASY SUGAR ABOVE ) 648 framed /all 24' x 36 each

    https://easysuger.com/products/easysuger-3-panels-watercolor-landscape-84218?variant=44178440290475

    Add a THROW, WAYFAIR....

    There you go.

I just added that all up and 1569.00 ...........including art and pillow and throw. You think you can do it well for less? Knock yourself out: )
