What do you store in your upper corner cabinets? Could use help.

I have two of those angled upper corner cabinets and am curious what people store in them. I'm re-arranging my kitchen storage so looking for ideas. Because they're angled, stuff tends to get lost in there. If pantry items aren't arranged in a straight line when I open the cupboard I won't see them, so that leads to a lot of wasted space. I don't want to store anything heavy up there in case I drop it -- it would chip the granite (i.e. casserole dishes, pots and pans, etc).

Here's how I have things now, you can see there is a LOT of wasted space. I can move the canned products to another cupboard, moving my pots and pans opened up a nice amount of regular (non-angled) cupboard space. I'm not tall enough to reach above the 2nd shelf in these without a stepladder.

I can’t reach my uppermost cabinets without a ladder either, so that’s where I store things that I almost never use: a small crockpot, wicker and paper plates, a coffee carafe, champagne flutes and specialty cocktail glassware, etc.

I'm not short, but my uppers are high and go up to the ceiling. The corner makes it even worse. "Worse" for access that is. I had my upper corner made with a cut-in, so it doesn't do that, but I have deep cabinets over an oven stack and the coolers. I have the too big stoneware casseroles that are necessary for feeding the entire family but rarely used nowadays--we've shrunk. The bulky, the rarely used, the V-mandoline that was a wonderful birthday present and is all in a fitted briefcase, but rarely worth using unless I'm cooking for the hordes who go with those casseroles. Oversized baking pans that I need to keep but rarely use. That is large, rarely used stuff, which are easy-ish to get in and out from a ladder, especially that aren't so hard to rearrange to get to what's in the back.. Small and delicate things can be a bother. I'm considering moving my stockpot up there. I make stock a few times per year, and I've taken to using my 'bean pot" (9 qt. dutch oven) for spaghetti sauce and soup.

Lazy susans. one large one per shelf, or two or even three smaller ones.

Can you remove a shelf? It might actually allow you to use the rest of the shelves better.

Remember this phrase: optimize is better than maximize. Just because you can store a lot of things doesn’t mean anything if you can’t get to them and put them away easily.

If lazy susans means using them to spin contents of uppers, rather than just storing them up there, I'll add a caution: My kitchen came with three lower corners, and they were wedge cut corners rather than the diagonal kind with the full round. That was my only pantry storage (no uppers except a couple of dish cupboards, which was the only place dishes could go). Stuff fell off those lazy susans all the time. Then the shelf had to be empty and one had to kind of crawl in to fetch them. I wouldn't want to on a ladder. I'm sure it might work for some people--just be sure it works for you before you install them.

I store all the things that aren't used the rest of the year! Party stuff,. plastic ware, paper plates, the roasting pan and rack that I use 2-3 times a year

My DD and I both have lazy susans in ours with our canisters of flour, sugar, etc. To the side I have my Pyrex measuring pitchers stacked. I have large plates/platters stacked on the middle shelf which I have only 6 inches tall maybe With a few smaller things in front. Top Shelf is those rarely used large items,

Just because the kitchen designer decided to put cabinets where you couldn't reach them, doesn't mean you have to use them. An empty cabinet is not going to weep at night nor will it feel left out as the others are filled. Sure, you could put stuff that you only use on the 32nd of the month up there, but those items probably belong in a yard sale.

@John Liu has the best suggestion, and I'll add to it. Get Bluetooth or WiFi connected speakers so you won't have to run wires. And I'm guessing there won't be power up there, so battery operated or rechargeable speakers are a must. If you get Bluetooth speakers you can pair them with a smartphone and by using Spotify or some other app, you'll never run out of music.

In my corner cabinet, I keep a set of Holly dishes that I only use in December and January, some bakeware that I use rarely and some condiment dishware that I rarely use.

My mom has one and she stores Christmas items that she displays in the kitchen.

I do not have upper corner cabinets in current house. I had 2 glass front angled corner cabinets in my previous house. Stored wine glasses and some other glassware in one and then some serving bowls in the other. I could only reach the very front of the bottom shelf. Hated those cabinets.

I also have corner cabinets. I'm also short (5 foot) so I need to use a stepstool to reach the top one. I have things I don't use much but won't part with, things like the candy dish my Grandmother got for a wedding gift, the silicone cupcake liners that I use when I'm freezing my annual overflow of eggs, the birthday cake plate that gets used 4 times a year when grandkids have birthdays. The bottom corner can't be reached any more easily than the top and it has those awful lazy susan shelves that I told the person measuring for shelves that I would hate and I do indeed hate them. One item falls off and into the back of the cabinet and I have to empty the cabinet and then get down on my hands and knees with a "grabber" to retrieve it because I cannot reach the back of that cabinet even when lying on the floor.

The top one isn't bad but I absolutely abhor that bottom cabinet with the spinning lazy susan shelves AND the "corner" door that hinges in the middle but has never closed correctly.

annie, in your case I recommend mid and tweeters in the upper corner cabs and woofer and subwoofers in the base corner cabs. Hang some fuzzy dice from the ceiling and you’ll be low-riding!

Oh, I've got two of those, too -- to match the angled uppers, of course... :0/

I keep casserole dishes, loaf pans and such and small electrics in those -- stuff is big enough not to get lost or fall off on the merry-go-round down there.

John I like that idea a lot, now if I can just convince Elery!

And "low rider"? Was that a short joke? (grin)

Do you NEED the storage? If you do not, first, just use for seldom needed items. Second , replace tbe wood with glass and just make a feature display with pretty glass, bowls, or whatever.

I love Sherry's display idea! Or, if that doesn't work with your stuff, back paint the glass and make it decorative.

One thing I really wanted to do in my kitchen, but didn't work for construction reasons, was to do mirror toe kicks with a grand ball for anthropomorphic mousies waltzing. (Beatrix not Walt)
