Young Apple Tree odd growth shape pruning

I have a semi-dwarf Gala Apple tree. Over the last few years the branches have bent sideways under the weight of the fruit causing the tree to grow in an even more dwarfed growth habit. I guess this summer it got feed up with that and it has put up 4 branches that grow straight up. I'm assuming it's doing that because as a semi-dwarf it wants to be more larger than it's current 4ft tall. So I'm just not quite sure how to prune for this. To me these look like branches growing at weak angles that should be removed. At the same time I'm pretty sure that if I remove them I'll be totally fighting against the nature of the tree & it's need to grow bigger. Any suggestions on how to train the tree up properly?

See it's this middle "branch" that concerns me the most. It looks like the tree is trying to develop a new central leader but that looks like a really weak branch growth angle to me:

Have you ever pruned this tree before? And you are aware that fruiting trees, especially apples, have rather specific pruning needs?

Those very upright growing straight shoots are epicormic growth, typically generated by some sort of stress - drought, over pruning, nutrient deficiencies, insect/disease issues. They will never develop into a fruiting structure so eventually sap the tree of vigor and reduce fruit production. Most sources recommend removal.

Also, you will be doing that tree a big favor by removing all the grass and weeds surrounding its base and applying a good organic mulch. And deep watering during any extended dry periods.

Thanks for your response. The tree does get pruned regularly and I am aware that fruiting trees have special pruning needs, though I'm afraid I'm not very good at it. Still trying to learn the art of how to prune them well.

Personally I'd leave that central verticle branch as "insurance" in case something bad happens to some of the lower branches,but I would keep tipping it and not let it grow higher than 7 feet. It will eventually grow lateral branches of its own.
