trying to choose the right light fixture.

This is one light that my husband ended up putting up in our living room and it’s just not hitting me right. I was having a hard time deciding on lighting so he ordered some lights to try and this is the only one I thought would work but I just don’t think it looks right. We don’t have furniture yet but it won’t be anything fancy.

Yes, that light is better suited for a dining table. Would you be opposed to installing a ceiling fan with a light instead for this living room?

I just haven’t been able to get used to it. It draws your eyes to the light and not the beautiful ceiling.

It looks like your taste is more modern than what you have currently installed. If you like something else better, then that's what you should get - unless it's completely out of keeping with the kitchen. It looks like this space is open to the kitchen? Since we can't see the kitchen and don't know how you intend to furnish the room we're lacking important information.

I will say that one of my relatives installed a fixture similar to what you have in a room that was meant to be a dining room but they used the room for another purpose. We tried it with different rod lengths and ended up liking a longer drop than what you're showing. I think it was 24". The ceilings in that room were 9 or 10' feet high. The fixture was also bigger. The one you have just might be too small. Did you consider recessed lighting instead? Or if this is going to be your living room then lamps might be the answer.

Living rooms don’t need ceiling light fixtures. Figure out where you want the furniture and then use table and floor lamps. They will provide nice warm lighting.

Take the silly shelf off the wall and remove that light it is all wrong and you really never need a center light in a LR Some pot lights would be good but lighting is layers of light and best done with lamps and pot lights .Please tell me that is not wall to carpet covering the flooring. Thai is an open space all one floor and maybe area rugs . Some info from you will be ahuge plus. IMO the one you were thinking of maybe but to be honesyt wait until all that room is done then it will tell you what you need for that light I have used this light ina ceiling just like yours but in a entry where light was must and this one is awesome it is call Autumn
