What style is this dining chair?

last year

I found two of these chairs at a Goodwill and since they were only $12 total, I rescued them. I figured if they didn't work out later it wasn't a huge expense, but I do think they are interesting. To my limited research it seems like a Spanish-y Jacobean style chair? What do you think it is?

Also, what would you pair with them? If I got other chairs to go with it, what would you do? A table too?

I am trying to learn about interior design more and how to pair pieces together, so I figured this could be a fun thought experiment! Thank you in advance!

Tudor and Jacobean are close eras. These chairs would work in those styles with a hefty table in a similar wood tone. If it's a long trestle table you could use them on the ends and have benches for the longer sides since it would hard to find matching chairs. They could flank a tea table with a floor length heavy textured table cloth ( Like those Tutor Gowns LOL.) They might work with some Mission or Arts and Crafts pieces too. For that Spanish flair, add a Talavera tiled table.

IMO the Barley Twist Leg might indicate Tudor.

Hrmm very good points! The Barley twist is interesting. I was thinking a long trestle table potentially. A very velvet tablecloth would be so dramatic and awesome!

This is a barley twist, a bit different than whats going on with your chairs--yours are symmetrical turnings. Anyway, Tudor, Jacobean and Spanish furniture of the period was very similar.

So cool! Thanks for sharing the table. I am going to look at more images now of the Tudor, Jacobean, and Spanish furniture. "Symmetrical turnings" is a new term for me too. Our house does have traditional furniture, but this would be quite the turn! Thank y'all for the information
