You need a larger rug. The one you have is making the room look smaller.

Although it would seem that the black cabinet would sit well in your scheme, I fear it might standout too much given that the only other black is in smaller doses. If it is in white then it would work well with darker decor items to keep black/ or dark grey as the highlight. Even with a change to the chair color, given what appears on screen as a very white base the unit in black might be too heavy in your scheme. Darker chairs would be just the right touch.

I agree that the tall cabinet in black is too heavy. What about a similar choice in a wood tone or painted colour. Pottery barn has lots of ideas - or Wayfair - just to browse through and see what catches your eye.

What do you use the current cabinet for? Is is additional storage - do you need more storage (maybe small kitchen appliances or serving dishes etc for when you have large meals? Do you need open storage to display pretty things, or is it more about closed storage to hide items you don't want on display regularly?

The space could be turned into a coffee bar with a cabinet and open shelving. Some marble remnants from a local stone yard could make a beautiful top for a cabinet.

If your current storage works for you, then keep what you have now. I'd get a another piece of art to hang above it that has more visual heft.

I like how light a monochromatic your home is. Yes, rugs in both the living and dining room with a bit of texture would be good.

You don't have much in the way of lighting, which can really change the feel of the room and make it seem less cold. Put a mirror on the wall above the cabinet you have, and add a nice table lamp. I'd also add a floor lamp to one side of your sofa.

I’d just paint it black (save the money) and it will look great once accessorized. Remove the mirror on the left.

Bring home things to test, as balance and proportions are key.

I’d also aim to create more of a connection in the room overall. The vases with the dried flowers should go, as the right accessorizes will make a big difference. Rug size and placement are key and move tables out a bit/accessorize with one low/solid item or nothing given their size.

Appreciate the comments so much. It’s amazing to get feedback from you all. LOL on the flowers, they are gone. Here’s a view from the other angle. Rug will be gone. What do you guys think if I mix wood tones? Like a wood bowl in the fireplace or planter with mesh. I do love my simple colors.

@mvcanada I already have a little coffee area inside the kitchen. I just filled this place with the furniture to keep the wine bottles and random storage inside.

I would use a much larger rug, almost to the fireplace. The one you have now is too small and makes the room look tiny. Also, the window treatments are too skimpy. You need to double what you have.

Hello beautiful people. What are your thoughts on either of these to add above the current cabinet. I do have an arch mirror on top of the fireplace. Appreciate ur honest opinions.

Since you already have a mirror, consider a framed print instead. I think both will feel too busy (especially the second one). It’s important to consider the wall and chest as they have to work with one another.
