Does a short headboard makes a King bed appear larger?

I recently upgrarded to a King bed after having had Queens my entire life, and I'm now looking at headboards. Am torn between a 49-inch and a 56-inch, and while I prefer the style of the taller one, I can't shake the impression that going with a shorter one would make the bed feel larger and in a way, more sleek. Is that often the case?

Bonus question: do you find that dark coloured sheets work better with beige / Ivory headboards or with light grey ones?

If you plan to sit back against the headboard, I would make sure the fabric is stain-proof, or body/hair oils will stain the fabric.

Mystery meat? Not a picture in sight of your room, not a picture in sight of the headboard in question.

The best color for sheets is white. They are not THE "FEATURE" on any bed. The rest of the bedding is.

Add Jpegs, all angles of the room.....and a picture of the headboard. Start there and know that a measured drawing of the space, included, is better yet. Use a comment box below, and add, take away the MYSTERY.

Dark or patterned sheets would not be my choice. I also like white sheets--they're the easiest to clean and see any dirt on.

and why would you want the bed to appear larger? King beds are large enough and can take over a small room. As Jan said, photos would help immensely with getting good advice.

I have not found that the height of a headboard makes a difference in the perceived size of the bed, but the height of the mattress from the floor does. Lower mattresses feel larger than taller mattresses.

What difference does it make if the bed seems larger or smaller?

Thanks, Jan. I intentionally didn't include photos of my room as I'm likely moving in the next year but plan to keep whichever headboard I buy for at least a decade, and likely much longer.

Current bedroom dimensions are quite large, and there's no concern about a taller headboard making the space feel reduced (though with the tallest of the two I'm considering being 56-inches in height, it's not an especially towering size either, compared to some of the more enormous options out there).

Attaching pics here. The two that I'm considering are both made by Jaymar, one being the Rachel (49-inches, shown here in Ivory), the other being the Catherine (56-inches, shown here in grey / silver - also has ears, making for a more grandiose look). I'm unable to see King versions of either in person, frustratingly. .

Good point about the sheets. I should have specifically written bedding, as I was mainly talking about blanket and pillowcases.

Do the beds come in more colors. I like the style of the second option but the color of the first one.

I hope its just the headboard you’re considering of the two pictures shown. That lip around the mattress is a real shin bumper, padded or no.
