I would love to hear your idea how to make this kitchen a bit prettier

last year

This kitchen currently is in decent shape, but I wonder what do you think I can do to update it to be more stylish but classy, I am not sure if I can restain the wood, or change cabinet door (then, I don't know if matching stain color would possible). Painting is an option but I don't like the paint coming off as we use and it is very hard to maintain.

if changing Tile types I like are zellige square tile or something green jade tune square or rectangle.

I hope to hear your advices. Thanks a lot!

It's a beautiful room--fresh, light, open. The gray tile detracts some, and I think your tile ideas would look a lot better. But the change I really want to make is the island pendants. They are basic and oddly spaced (just a camera angle problem?). They are clutter. Do something unobtrusive like the track lighting in your inspo pic, or use a larger statement pendant centered over the island.

You need something on the left wall. It could be open shelves as in your inspiration photo, a large poster or painting, or a larger plant on the counter there.

The grey of the fence showing in the kitchen window is not attractive. Could you include more plants, some higher, to the windowsill?

You can add led under cabinet lighting strips for more work zone illumination.

All above and let's not forget the stools. Stools with a back will be classier than what you currently have.

Your kitchen is lovely - clean & streamlined. I would like to add color. The wall on the left needs something. Shelves would be great with colorful objects on them but shelves might block the window - can’t see how it opens. They would distract from the fence though. If not shelves then a large colorful wrapped canvas art. I agree updating pendants to a more colorful or interesting shade type would add a lot. Also agree updating stools to a more comfy & substantial stool would be good. Colorful pots or jars in the back corner on right too as well as in basket tray on island. I just want color! Leave the tile alone - it’s pretty. Do add undercab lighting if you don’t have it.

It is lovely. The left wall, maybe one shelf, not too high, and a large piece of artwork, maybe an art poster, above that. Outside, can you add climbing plants to the fence and a plaque, or wall baskets, or bird feeder (actually, with the fence there, it would quickly become a squirrel feeder!), or something?

I think your cabinets look nice and are fairly timeless. You could replace the backsplash - maybe a solid tile that is the whitish background on your countertop. Replace the small island lights with one large, centered one. Add a roman blind on your window - green/yellow/white would look nice - and paint/stain the fence as it is quite an eyesore right now. And, add an arrangement with green/white on the island.

Lots of great ideas, and I will suggest you paint or otherwise improve the wood fence that is visible through the window. Maybe paint and add some planters, decorative outdoor art, party lights, or all of the above.

I am overwhelmed with all the useful advices :) Thank you so much!

Kendrah, Thank you so much! what tile color do you think it will pair well with the countertop and the cabinet?

That kitchen will remain a beautiful kitchen for many years to come. Yes, the pendants could be a bit larger and be more of a feature, yes the stools could be more, yes the fence could look better ….. but really it looks timeless. I would suggest another option for you which might be something to consider - the hardware. A slimline chrome style might be a change which feels good for you, but otherwise you made great choices in the lovely golden wood and bench tops.

Another vote for new pendants, big unexpected art work that makes you smile, nice and comfy stools, new hardware either black or stainless. A timeless kitchen with cabinet color never to be painted. Add some colorful accessories but don’t overdo. Year round thin bushes/climbers /tree to disguise fence and add yard interest. Step back and then think if backsplash needs to be done. All but garden and backsplash could be done in a day..

New pendants and also new barstools. And yes to a piece of art to the left of the sink.

I like the idea of new cabinet hardware and some beautiful plants growing up the fence. Lovely kitchen!

Great looking kitchen! I agree with others - paint the fence or hang some beautiful planters decorations or a trellis. I would do either art work or a nice herb planter, change the stools, change the pendants, add lights over the window and maybe the passthrough and put in a nice runner.

the beauty of these type of updates - you can do one at a time so you don't over do. Other than an electrician for the lighting and someone to do a new backsplash, there is not a lot of expense.

    Good luck!

I think it's already a pretty kitchen! New lighting, and a pretty trellis with plantings in front of the fence. (Maybe refinish / stain / seal the fence first, depending on its condition.)

You can update the hardware and pendant lights.
    Maybe gold?

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Put you money outside doing something about the ugly fence. Morning Glory seeds are cheap. If you want to spend more plant a lovely
