What color of tile and water will be best for this roman style pool that will be inviting but keeping a naturalistic view?

So I personally like when a pool has a continuous material on the sides and the bottom. Not a fan of those vinyl liners with a border or a tile border at the water line.

Is your pool a vinyl or hard surface? My vinyl pool has Merlin's Island Granite and I absolutely love the water color.

There are a lot more options if you have a hard surface. Pebble Tec uses those little varigated pebble colors to give a beautiful natural color to the water.

This is "Moonlight Grey" but there are SO many to choose from:

Personally, I don't like a pool to scream "look at me" when I look over the pool to the view beyond it. We saw a lot of those pools in the 1990's to go along with the faux Tuscan trends.

We built in 2021 and went with muted colors for the pool. I want people to look "through" the pool area and see the pond and golf course view.

One of the pools I had was painted a sand colour and the water looked just like at the ocean.

Mine was done with a slate tile border.

Too bright can be irritating to the eyes.

This was my client's pool. A light beige

Had a client who did a dark finish pool. The only issue was because the pool was not screened, snakes made their way into the water and it wasn't easy to see the snakes in the water.

Chispa - I don't think you've ever posted a photo of a part of your home that I didn't love. Thinking about coming down and moving in! 😂 What did you use for your pool deck? It has a bit of a subtle terrazzo look (with a cement color background). Looks really pretty.

Diana - I really like the stone tiles you installed for your pool deck. Looks very nice.

A white painted pool perhaps might be irritating to some people but the colour I had definitely wasn't at all.

    Thank you, dani--it's bluestone.

@Diana Bier Interiors, LLC my pool is concrete and I will be resurfacing the pebble finish that is delaminated.

In that case, you have a lot more options to get a natural looking pool. Anything with a lot of gray will give you a pretty slate blue color. Beige or sand color will give you aqua or turquoise.

I am looking at wetedge signature matrix pebbles and pebble sheen what color will you suggest to go to keep the naturalistic view wetedgetechnologies.com or pebbletechpebble tech.com

As I mentioned a couple of times, a medium gray surface will give you a nice subtle slate blue water color. Anything with bright blue will look unnatural--no natural body of water is "ty-d-bowl blue." Anything with beige will look more green. Anything very dark will give you dark water which makes it difficult to see to the bottom. White or light colors will give you light blue water.

Wet edge technologies has lots of them to choose from, first select your surface--do you want pebbles again, or a smooth surface? Prism Matrix in Luxe, Primera Stone Grigio Treasure, Prism Matrix Moonlight, are all pebbles and all could work. You really need to view the pools on the websites and see which ones look best. But also keep in mind that there are other factors that affect the water color, such as sun, clouds, trees, time of day, etc.

I would match the waterline tile to the coping and choose a white or sand colored mini pebble finish if it is in your budget.

What do you think about this tile for the spa wall with a plain tile for the waterline ? https://www.nptpool.com/tile/hana/

    That’s a really pretty tile

@Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Thank you, do you think it will work for my pool? I am thinking this tile for the spa wall and a plain blue or beige for the water line.

I like it but not with your beige pool deck tile

@Diana Bier Interiors, LLC what color and size tile would you suggest?

I think bluestone would work great with that tile. The larger the better, in varied sizes. Or white travertine. No pink or beige. Grey, white or blue.

Absolutely LOVE Bluestone! I think that Diana has provided you with some great info re: how the color of the walls/bottom of your pools affects the color of the water. I think using gray = a slate blue water would be pretty.

Chispa - okay, "visit" is more appropriate than immediately "moving in" with you! 😂 I can trade my visit for any free legal work you might need . . . (not criminal - but I assume that you don't need any criminal law advice!) I'm hoping that your bathroom with the marble floors is a guest bathroom . . .

I've also become pretty good out in the garden - making containers is a talent that I didn't know existed until two summers ago!

The photos of my pool show natural bluestone. The natural stone is either smooth or full-cleft (textured). The color is either all blue or variegated--with greens and purples interspersed. Here is a photo of natural all blue stone:

    This is a variegated style:

You need to go to a stoneyard and see the products in person to make sure you know what you are getting. All blue smooth is probably going to be more expensive than the variegated colors with the more textured surface.

You can also get porcelain tiles that look like bluestone. Again, seeing in person is absolutely required.

@lisedv please tell me where did you find this tile?

I have and really like natural bluestone pool coping and patio. Just be aware that it does get very hot on sunny days.

For safety, don’t go too dark with the pool finish especially if you have kids using the pool as it can be difficult/impossible to see anything under the water surface.

^^^that and you can’t see the snakes like Bev said. Ewwww!

  • yesterday

You could try a pretty green bejmat moroccan tile like this. The Riad Yasmine…
