Turning over a new (rose) leaf

It's been years since I posted here, I used to be extremely active on the site and obsessive about my gardening. The past few years have proven to be filled with difficulty but more importantly, growth. I had chipped away tiny pieces of myself for my ex-partner and started abandoning the things I loved most.
While the divorce was challenging, one of the major pain points was leaving the beautiful, painstakingly-curated gardens I had loved for 8 years. I sobbed for those gardens and my roses I so adored. I couldn't bring any with me as I moved into an apartment.
But in that pain came a determination to rebuild my life, a life of my own choosing. I dropped the dead weight of my ex, got a new job that I am thriving in, bought my own house all by myself, and started dating an incredible man.
This year is going to be the first (full) year in my new home. As last year I moved in July and by that time, with everything going on, the garden was not my biggest priority.
To inaugurate my new home and garden I am starting with my all time favorite rose, Mme Plantier. I'm planting her some friends including Queen of Sweden, Earth Angel, Tiffany, and Dee Lish.
I cannot wait for the changes and growth this year brings ❤️ I'll be surely more active in the site, sharing my progress photos, and tuning in to get inspiration from you all and encourage others in their gardening journeys.

Welcome back, Kali. Your rose choices look like spectacular ones. May I advise you that Earth Angel and Dee-Lish can get large. I've grown both and planted Earth Angel towards the front of my 8' deep bed...big mistake! When she hit 6 feet, double her anticipated mature height, I had to make a tough decision. She was shovel pruned. I found her flower form and scent tremendous assets, but her poor repeat, and balling up were disappointing.

Her absence is missed, but not greatly.

I have three Dee-Lish bushes that are greatly liked, although i have been advised that Sweet Mademoiselle is even a better rose. My three Dee-Lishes were planted at the back of the bed and are suited perfectly to their placement. Their scent is powerful, wafting in the air, easily. They're 5-6' tall here by season's , so it's a tall bush even in 6b, Pittsburgh, but they are advertised as such in the media. No surprises here.

In a more hospitable climate than my 6b, hot-humid, black spot ravished summers and cold winters, also with a longer growing season, these two, Earth Angel and Dee-Lish, will perform to their full potential.

I wish you much success in your new life. You're so young, and have such a bright future ahead of you, and so much to give to make a difference. A relationship that continuously chips away at you is one of the worst of states to be in. Divorce is not a good thing, but the alternative is to eventually be so chipped away at, there's nothing left to be chipped at. God bless you.

    Moses.

Sorry to hear you had to go through the difficulty of divorce and leaving your garden behind. But your enthusiasm about your new life shines through and is very uplifting to read about. Planting your favorite rose along with rose friends sounds like a great start for your new garden!

Hi Kali!! This is Roxanna from many years ago and it's good to see you back! So sorry about how the past years have been for you, but happy to hear things are going forward in a better direction. Sorry you had to leave your previous gardens, but I know you will create wonderful ones at your new place!

Your roses are gorgeous (I have a black thumb with them, as opposed to a green one, sadly). Gardening for me is still a passion, altho I have slowed down considerably these days. If your present house is near enough to me and want some more daylilies or whatever I have, you are welcome to come and get them! =)

So good to see you back and mentally strong. Blessings on your new beginnings

All - thank you so much for the warm welcome and kind wishes, it's so great to be back in this environment and sharing with you all! Can't wait to begin planting and share the progress with you all. The season has not even started in zone 6b MA and somehow I am already behind in starting my herbs/veggie seeds lol

Roxanna - thank you so much or the offer it's incredibly kind of you. I ADORED the daylilies and other plants you had gifted me all those years ago. There was one stunning daylily you gave me, I used to call her 'Banana" because she was enormous (about 5' wide and 4' tall when I left) and had the most vibrant, bright yellow flowers. She is now bringing joy to the people who bought old house. I'd love the chance to meet up again - if you are still in the same town I believe we are about 35 mins away.

Markay - your Earth Angel looks like it's straight out of a magazine! I love seeing people's matured roses and can only hope mine will one day look that good.

Moses - sorry to hear you had to shovel prune your rose, it's always a shame when we have to make those decisions. Very happy to hear how well Dee-Lish performs. I bought it on a whim over the fall and just shoved it in the ground quick before winter hit - I'll certainly be relocating it in a couple weeks as it's right up against the side of the house (whoops - after 10 years you'd think I'd not do that). I plan to have a "big garden bed" with all my biggest roses, including Mme Plantier - at my old house she got at least 12' wide and 10' tall which was shocking.
