slate design question!

last year

Hi there! Hoping for some help with an open floor plan basement design project. In one corner of the room there is a large golf simulator with green turf. Coming off the turf will be a dark gray/black slate that will lead into another room. My plan is to make a lip boarder around the 2 open sides of the turf with 12x12 slate diamond 🔷with turf “grout”. Then the slate will transition with regular grout out into a small room in from of the simulator. I would like the size of the slate to change to 12x24 after the boarder.
So my question is can I do that?
Can I change the size after the boarder?
Thank you for reading this and commenting.
(These are examples of what I’m trying to achieve and my lovely sticky note model )

IMO you're making this way too complicated.

Slate & then turf until you no longer want the turf. That day may come.

It's the basement not the outdoor patio.

Will this be a golf simulator and movie viewing room?

I agree with beverly simple always a better choice than overthinking .

I like the suggested simpler approach.

If the turf is not being laid on top of the tile, buy extra tile and grout to finish the floor if/when you get rid of the turf. It won‘t match exactly when laid down later but at least you (or future buyers) will have options.

I would also make sure that you have extra slate tile so that if/when the golf simulator is removed (or you sell the house) - you can replace the turf with the same slate tile.

EDIT - I somehow missed the comment above by Design Fan - great minds think alike!
