Tall vintage fridge in small low kitchen

last modified: 10 months ago

I just bought a 76 inch retro refridgerator for a vintage farmhouse, but just have 7 foot ceilings. It's a small kitchen so looks even more prominent. Any thoughts or suggestions? There's about 10 inches above the fridge...

Picture would help but I can say that if it is vintage looking let it be the accent and do nothing above it. Also if you chose a colour make sure you carry that colour in other areas to balance it. That could be a glass door cabinet with vintage Fiesta ware bowls and dishes or a vintage looking stand mixer or toaster in the same colour as your refrigerator etc.

will send photos shortly - thanks so much! (and yes , LOL 76 inches!)

Pics - the house is 1920s farmhouse themed

It looks great with the vintage vibe of your kitchen! Does it feel tight between the fridge and the stove? If so, I'm wondering if you can move the fridge to the left and put the trash on the other side.

Also, it might be nice to swap the trash can for something vintage looking. I found the one below on Amazon (link) and it comes in several colors. You could do white to match the stove and sink or try to match the fridge color (except a near miss might look off.)

    Fridge looks good!

In the era of the house style, which is around 1900-1920, appliances were not wrapped with cabinetry, kitchens did not look seamless, appliances stood alone, cabinets were freestanding tables and hutches. Grand houses had ”built-ins” but typical kitchens less so. So the fridge looks great as it is, similar to the range and sink.

Later in the 1920s, the “modern sanitary kitchen” look emerged with continous cabinetry to the floor. Your house, or at least the part we can see, is not on that style.

Can't believe you bought a green fridge for a white kitchen.

Placement is likely a larger issue than height.

"I can't believe you bought the mint" really???? I love that you picked something that is you!!!! Being bold, makes a room stand out and shows your personality. Add a larger piece of art with the mint color in it on the wall and your beautiful kitchen will come together.

Thank you! Great idea! Would an accent wall be too much? .

    Yes

I would not do an accent wall

Gotcha! Larger art with mint color in it should do the trick - along with a few accessories / dish towels - will look into Hoosier cupboards and Jadeite dishes..This is all incredibly helpful advice. :)

Love your vintage home, and kitchen, and.... mint fridge! Hope you post pics after you get the larger art with mint color, and accesories.

Absolutely! Thanks so much for the support!

Reminds me of the blue frig on the new Tim Allen show “Shifting Gears”. On-line people say its made by Big Chill.

Your kitchen has lots of personality!
