For contrast, I'll go the other direction. Light color. And a 77" 4K tv on the wall at a much lower height without a console or at most a thin small console.

Sectionals defeat the purpose of an open plan. Sofa and chairs, and measure the space carefully.

+ Something where the back of it looks pleasing.

If you plan to use a large TV screen, there's only one wall for the TV to the left of the fireplace.

Here is a plan that could work for the room.

A sectional with big ottomans takes up space in an open concept floorplan. A sectional is critical to the success of open concept family use design if you make the space comfortable, casual, relaxed and 'loungeable' . Otherwise, family members will be in their rooms using laptops and phones. Your space will be an empty desert. Wasted. This space is not primarily for 'guests'.

Hi Carrie, you have a great open space there in your new home, there's so much potential to make it an inviting place for you and your family and friends! Cute doggie and kitty--I bet you have lots of dog and cat nose prints on the windows 😁 I bet that large sectional couch worked well in your old home, or else you wouldn't have bought it, and you wouldn't have brought it with you to your new home. The only place it would work in your new home though, is in the corner where your fireplace is.

Your sectional couch looks delightfully comfy, but it is quite imposing, even in the relatively large space of your family room/living room. Everyone is presented with the back of the couch, and that coupled with the height just gives the impression of a barrier--like a half wall, closing off the space.

How often do you use the fireplace? How often do you use the television? With the television mounted to the FP wall so high, you're straining your neck to watch...and you're also staring at a rock wall the whole time. The placement of the FP in the corner is not conducive to the overall "feeling" or actual "good use" of the room. It is a focal point for sure, but not a good one. Proper placement of furniture will help draw your eye away from the "not well-placed" focal point.

BeverlyFLADezigner has the best idea here. Place your TV on the wall to the left of the FP. Set a chair to the right, and a couch parallel to the TV and the bar wall. Single couch only, not a sectional. You can also place two chairs to the left of the couch where Beverly has only one chair placed in her design. Try getting swivel barrel chairs for all three chairs, that way everyone can swivel to talk to those on the couch, or swivel to watch TV. Barrel chairs only come up to a person's mid-back, so they don't cut off a view. Try to find a couch with the same low back so that anyone sitting at the breakfast bar isn't straining to look over the top of the couch to see the TV. When you are sitting on your new couch, set your TV at eye level--dig one of the cat toys out of the box--the laser pointer--and mark a comfortable spot on the wall for TV viewing. A shallow console in the same shade and style as the FP mantle would look great, you could set your TV on top, and then get a nice piece of wood framed artwork to set on top of the FP mantle.

Sell your couch online and use the proceeds to get a nice hanging light over your dining area table. Good luck and don't forget to post "after" photos! 😉
