warping? not sure about that but we have various weather conditions at the lake . its more expansion and contraction which isnt the same as warping. Hickory is a hard stable wood. but the solution that I see the most beneficial is 5 panel construction so the pieces of wood that form the fronts can move a bit/ and avoid painted finish if you can. .....that is usually sufficient. Unfamiliar with duraform. So you go from a cooler winter season with heat on ? to fairly intense heat ...but what about air conditioning and the fan to keep the air moving and humidity doesnt hang around? We have high humidity in the summer but that 2 stage with the fan has allowed me to put away the dehumidifier and keep the air conditioning set at not extreme cooling settings.

I would need to know why hickory at all beach or not. These are twwo very different choices so I need more info as to the rest of the decor. I find hickory very busy and not good mixed with other woods at all. What are your floors to begin with ?

agree with the hickory looking busy. Have you looked at the hickory, or just a small sample? a Florida beach condo would be better suited to something lighter and fresh.

Hickory has different grades with major tone differences between sap and heart wood. It could be pricey to get the quality level of prime to avoid the blotchy appearance.

And it turns yellow when finished.

St Augustine is a historical spot....you can make a cozy traditional kitchen that fits the ambience of the community. Hickory or wood does not have to be dismissed because it is "Florida" Ive been to Key West in FLORIDA and noticed all the wood structures.
