We are recarpeting our second floor bedrooms along with the staircase. I’d like to install a runner (in the same carpet as the bedrooms) but the old treads are unsightly, no matter how much sanding a staining we do. In a prior remodel, the bottom three treads were replaced, so they look fine and are not candidates for painting. (My husband would freak!) My question: would painting the old treads the same as the stringers (BM Swiss Coffee) look okay while having the bottom three treads remain the natural wood? About 5” on each side would be exposed, so 27” of carpet runner would cover all treads. Thanks so much for your input!
