I already checked in about my losses. I was glad to have only fully lost two registered semi-evergreens and two evergreen seedlings. We did have substantial snow cover in January, which had the coldest temperatures. I lost some fans on 8-10 registered daylilies. Which daylilies did you lose, Sherry?

No evidence of Before, Little Castaway, Kennesaw Mtn Lemon Sorbet, Coast to Coast, Free Wheelin’ and one more i cant remember at the moment. I moved quite a few last fall and I believe they are all looking good.

I have never lost one as far as I recall. But I am in such a good climate: right on the border of the northern and southern weather zones. And I am in the middle of that: there seems to be a pattern of south and west Ky being hotter, east & south east being stormier, north & north east being dryer, west gets more tornadoes.

I almost count on loosing some over winter with my pot system. Although I haven't begun to divide/refresh the pots yet (soon however) at a glance it looks like I have only lost one so far. An Evergreen. Good, but also UH OH. I do have a few coming my way (few being a relative term) that I pre-ordered last fall in expectation of loosing more........... I think the fact that the daylilies weren't subjected to any hard freezes before they were mostly dormant contributed to less loss this year........Maryl

It looks like our winter was hard on the daylilies. I lost Purple Tarantula. Actually, it is the second time I lost it in one year. I won't be replacing it. Stiped Action and Sunny with a Chance of Wine both bit the dust. I am not happy about those two. They are broken color/striped daylilies that I was hoping to breed with. Many of these striped daylilies go back to Undefinable which has a reputation of being tender. Tet. Waxen Splender looks dead as well as a Joe Goudeau hybrid whose name escapes me. Indiana Melissa might be dead. We still haven't made a complete inventory of dead ones, but I believe there are more. We planted a group of daylilies that we didn't want to put in the greenhouse. They survived the winter before, but some of them don't look good now. We do mulch the ones we feel might be tender.

On another note, many of the daylilies now look terrible because of the frost a couple of night ago. I know they will grow out of it, but they are ugly right now.

Thanks for the input. I have no growth on the daylilies I listed. Could some be late to emerge? I havent checked for roots yet

You know Sherry, the first thing I'd check is the crown. If it's mush all around the crown and the leaves pull off easily and look rotted at the end next to the crown, it may not matter about the roots. I've had many daylilies still look like they had viable roots, but die anyway because the crown had frozen earlier and then turned mushy when the temperature began to rise. Just a thought........Maryl

No losses here. Our winter was colder and more snow than the previous years that we've been here but the daylilies that I do have are growing great. Just need to keep the deer out of the garden once I remove the cloches. We just got a another lite rain overnight so no spraying till things dry out again.

I had thought Lazy Cat was a goner, but it perked back up. Of all things, ants wert the culprit and they are just a memory now.

I don't think there were any losses here, but I don't usually venture into the potentially tender. Plants are large after lots of rain in the last few weeks. But don't forget that last year's April also had abundant rainfall. And we all know what happened in the summer.

Update, gone for sure are Little Castaway, Free Wheelin, Fernstone and Kennesaw Mtn, Lemon Sorbet. There is no evidence that a daylily was in the spots they occupied.…..just gone, no rotted crown. They were all semi evergreen. These daylilies were all in different beds. Looks like dormants for me from now on.

Mantis, mine are large, but a number of them are showing the lack of sufficient rain during both last year and the winter. Because I live in the deep south, cold rarely affects the plants but they did have a later freeze after a basically warm winter and it did them no favors.

Well, Doctor Handsome finally emerged, so it turns out I didn't have any losses. Sherry, I'm so sorry you lost so many. Free Wheelin' is an evergreen. What about those seedlings I sent you last Spring? Did they make it, or was one of them your sixth loss?

Debra, your seedlings survived the winter, yeah! I moved Before and I think it is ok. I have a few daylilies missing where the tall phlox tried to takeover the garden……not sure why….that is where Little Castaway was located. My labels in that area are a mess. I may need to wait till bloom time to determine was else is gone

My four missing daylilies are gone, I do think I had crown rot. I did find Before, it got moved and has two scapes now despite being moved.

Debra, bad news about the two seedlings you sent. Inimitable X Moonlit Caress has died, dont understand the recent decline. Palace Garden Beauty X Karelia X This longing is only one fan now, second fan died this week. Leonard looks terrific, two huge fans!

Sherry - Too bad about the two seedlings! Kate says they are still alive for her, although they have not shown any increase. I'm glad Leonard is still hanging in there for you. I think that one is pretty hardy. Here, Dr. Handsome finally emerged and started growing like gangbusters, having gained a fan since I planted it in late October. Razor Eyes, which looked like it was down to just one fan, now is showing seven fans, an increase of two since last fall.

We had our usual cold winter, but no snow cover, which is very unusual.

Looks like all registered are up but some are down to one-two small fans, both southern and nothern.

I am still not doing too well so only ventured into the yard couple times this year, briefly.

Lost quite a bit of seedlings, 75% of last year planted, and a dozen others, including several already established ones, which seemed big and strong - vanished. Well, I was talking about downsizing especially in seedlings, and mother nature did it for me. Sad about the one seedling in particular, it was my favorite.

And we are already very dry here..

Wow, Nat, so many lost seedlings! Hope things improve for us all. it is dry here too, no rain in the forecast for a week.

Debra, all of your seedlings have done well here….so disappointing this time. It was ahard winter here, we also have many shrubs with some die back, lots of trimming and cutting back.

Nat - So sorry to read the winter took such a toll on both registered daylilies and seedlings. We did have lots of snow cover here, so I guess that's why I didn't lose anything.
