Need backsplash & cabinet paint color help!

last month

I moved into this house 1 1/2 years ago. I've already had the floors restained, the entire first floor painted and am now starting on the kitchen. I say this so you know I like what's there. The walls are BM Maritime White, the trim & doors are Chantilly Lace and the floor, as you can see in the pic, is medium dark brown. Large windows face south & east.

I love my antique Stickley sideboard which has been in the family for about 90

years and fits perfectly in the little nook.

I "think" I've selected Cambria Macbeth for countertops and I would like a tile backsplash. I don't like grout that is darker than the tile and jumps out in your face. Help, please. Maybe a narrower tile or a pattern? These in a neutral pallet? I'm looking for a peaceful, happy vibe and great suggestions.

As for the cabinets...I have no idea. And the cabinets scare me the most. The second pic is what they are today... I guess I'm not a fan of maple.

I appreciate any and all of your thoughts and suggestions.

Fridge area shown but entire kitchen is a question… painting all the maple is a big project and youve spent money on the floors so you want good choices from here out. show the entire area. the counters seem fine w the floor stain… you sure about ripping those out?

Thanks, but I attached the picture so you could see the current color of the cabinets. I am replacing the granite counter with quartz...I think I'm going with the Cambria Macbeth. Therefore, I am looking for backsplash ideas and cabinet color. Any thoughts regarding that?

Cambria Macbeth appears to be very cool w gray veining etc… do you want a neutral or a color .. a pale sage green might work w the floor and macbeth then. backsplash when everything else is done

IMO replacing real stone with fake is a downgrade but I do not like the shape of that counter but I need to see the whole kitchen as it is now including the floors . IMO the quratz you like does not in any way go with thta cabinet you love the quartz is like every other kitchen counter and boring for sure. As for the cabinets I might say change the hardware clean them well and do not paint. It will cost a fortune to paint them and I think thye work well with the cabinet. I do agree if you must paint them a sage could work I guess. but then a real stone counter either granite or quatzite As for backsplash that depends on all the other choices and can de decided long after the rest is done.

Thank you. I've attached pics showing the whole kitchen. I should mention I don't like this particular granite and it has some chips and rough edges. I don't have a table and chairs at this point. I thought of painting the cabinets because they have a couple scratches and gouges in them that would need repair. I have no idea what the prior owner could have done to them.

Macbeth is a cool white background with honey/taupe & gray very light veining

Seems like you have the space to rework the layout. Is that an option or are you going to keep the current footprint?

I’d wait on backsplash until after you choose, or better yet, install the new countertop and cabinets.

Do you have any inspiration photos of kitchens you love?

I would love to change the layout, but unfortunately that isn't an option. I'm trying to update the kitchen with what I have to work with. What are your thoughts about a paint color for the cabinets presuming I go with the Cambria Macbeth?

I would not paint those cabinets. It is an expensive undertaking to be done correctly and eventually you need to deal with chips, etc. Have you thought about refacing your cabinets? For what a good paint job costs it might be a similar cost to reface, especially if keeping the same layout.

It's hard to tell from your picture but it appears you do not have a large back splash area. Have you considered using the Cambria Macbeth for the back splash as well?

If painting the cabinets is what you ultimately choose to do, I would explore the pale sagey greens as suggested by herbflavor.....just be sure to bring home sample colors to see in your space with your existing wall color.

    Good luck.

Susan, I didn't know anything about cabinet refacing. It seems like a good idea. Thanks.

I don't know anyone who has had it done, so not sure of a recommendation. Where should I start researching?

You can search on house under cabinet refacing....lots of discussions, both pro and con. You can also check with your local cabinet businesses to see if any offer refacing.
