I get why Saybrook Sage is tempting—it ties in with the pop of sage from the bedding, and at first glance, it feels like a creative move.

But in my opinion, there's really only one right way to treat tray ceilings: once you hit that first horizontal plane, everything above it—whether it’s flat or vertical—is technically ceiling. (Crown moulding gets a pass.)

Using a different color on any part of the ceiling breaks it up visually and ends up acting like an accent wall. But no single part of a tray ceiling is architecturally interesting enough to carry a different color. There’s just no real reason to spotlight one component—it works best as a cohesive whole.

I suggest keeping it simple, Swiss Coffee on the entire tray.
