help with furniture layout

last year

We are struggling with a decent layout for our furniture in our living room. The current layout, shown in the pictures, is the best we could come up with. However, we don’t like it 100%. Anyone walking in the front door, will see the side and back of the Ivory recliner. The TV is higher than we would like. Part of the problem is that the wall behind the recliners and the wall that the fireplace is on are not aligned with each other very well. Additionally, behind the sofa near the piano is the entrance to a guest suite. So we have to leave space to access that. Would love to hear other suggestions for arranging the space.
Oh, and also, the space where the TV is currently has a wall mounted TV rack that came with the house. If we move the TV, we need ideas to cover that. It extends maybe 3 inches.

Draw a floor plan on graph paper with all measurements. The TV is way too high. I'm thinking the TV needs to be on the wall that the recliner is on but hard to tell from your pictures. Add a picture of the entire room in one shot.

Ms. Lara.....You need to show all walls in the space. You can be helped, but not if you don't show it all!

I do need better photos. Hard to get a feel for the space.

On first thought I’d try the sofa facing the fireplace and see how it flows.

I also think there are too many tables and random nick nacks in the space.

Try the sofa across the TV and the two chairs where the sofa is.

Would the tv work on the patio door wall? Then you'd arrange your furniture around it and the fireplace.

Without the floor layout, start with removing EVERYTHING except the chairs, sofa and piano. Decide on the wall - not over the fireplace - for the TV, then arrange furniture for best TV viewing. The fireplace ambience will take care of itself, you don’t have to stare at it. Once chairs sofa and piano are in place add in a minimum number of tables by the chairs, enough so anyone seated would have reading light and coasters for drinks. So if you have two chairs flanking the fireplace a table by each one. A coffee table in front of sofa. All the other side tables, credenzas, will be happier in new locations. After all this (take time with effort and breathe) remove the wall decor and with help from the Houzz decorators discover which pieces make you feel happy and reframe and rearrange into a cohesive gallery.
Have fun with this and pet the dog 🐕‍🦺

one more thing. does your ceiling fan light create a strobe effect when light and fan are both on? If so, remove or replace the light fixture. If you don’t use the fan replace with a lovely light fixture.

The strobe effect happens when the light source is above the fan ... which is why you have to be careful where you place recessed light if you are also going to have a fan.
