I had a pale sandy/cream color with a light pattern in my last kitchen, and I LOOOVED it compared to my current black counters which suck all the light and show all the crumbs.

I've had both and loved both. All depends on the cabinets, lighting, etc...

We have Virginia Mist/Jet Mist black granite countertops with white shaker cabinets, and gray/white marble smaller scale herringbone backsplash. The look works in our traditional/transitional house. While Jet Mist granite is a great substitute for a soapstone look, ours are polished and every spill and streak and crumb shows (although some camouflage from the granite for the crumbs). I can’t imagine white countertops showing more than these high polished black!

It all depends upon the house -- the design, the amount of lighting, the amount of countertop. But, in general, I suspect light suits more houses than does dark.

Which is easier to keep clean? Either extreme -- white-white or black-black will show crumbs and more. If you want easy-to-clean, go with a cream /ivory with a bit of speckle, vein or other design.

I have leathered steel gray darker counters and love them. Easy to care for and do not show finger prints or crumbs. They are more of a charcoal color than a black. I do not think there is anything wrong with light counters I am just not a fan. It would all depend on the particular kitchen.

We just changed up our countertops from dark gold granite to Aspen White Dolomite and Love it! the room is so bright and clean…but I do love dark like charcoal or black countertops too..depends on the overall feel and style you want..both work just different.
