The Blooming Continues

last year

The last two mornings have been unseasonably cool which slows the opening, but they usually manage anyway. We had a rain, and as you know that can set off blooming.

Fernstone had 10 blooms

Marseilles Watercolor had it First bloom of the season

Colorado Moon fire bloomed (opened later in the day)

FFO Bill Watson

FFO: Fighting Fire

FFO Irish Thunder

FFO: Texas Carnival Dance

Nice little foursome of Dragonfly Tattoo

Niobe is finally blooming nicely

And this clematis is also looking better

The gardenias behind this clematis are budded now too.

Thank you, Sherry and Debra. Oh good, Sherry buds are such a happy thing to find.

Debra, that clematis is one that I ordered several years ago and if you can imagine it, the woman sent me a different plant that is no longer here. She informed me that I didn't want this one, but I did want it and ordered it from a company that sent what I ordered. I never ordered from her again. It is called Jackmani.

Nice grouping of daylily blooms. Pretty clemtis too. How do you like the spiral trellis for the climbing clematis?

Thank you, Julia. The spiral is good for the good climbers, but not so much for the weaker ones. I actually find the smaller "arms are much easier for most of them to climb. Josephine has no real trouble but Niobe would not do well with the spiral unless it were wrapped in something easier to climb. It has to have help on most structures.

Niobe can be difficult, and yours looks good. Your Fernstone looks good, though a bit low. A lot of plants here have shown the effects of bad seasons (fall, winter, spring). It may be naive to think that all that lush growth of the daylilies will produce a good bloom season.

Fernstone is looking good with all those blooms! You are getting multiple blooms now. The season has truly begun! The clematis look great. Mine are done now-I had one bloom left this morning.

Thank you, Mantis and Kate. The foliage is indeed lush, but these few cool nights have slowed opening just a bit, but the heat is almost back and will be in a couple of days.

Mantis, clematis NIobe waited about three years to really begin blooming much here and it generally has to be cut to the ground dude to fungus at least once a season but does then grow and bloom well again.

Kate, there are usually at least a couple new blooms daily, so the season has really begun. This is the best year my clematis have had, probably due to all the recent rain.
