Plant IDs please (for NYC Zone 7b)

last modified: last year

Hi everyone. I'd love to get your thoughts on these various seedlings in my various balcony planters. I know that some of the seedlings are shiso, lemongrass, licorice mint, and Love-in-a-Mist flowers (so for those ones, I do not need help IDing).I just need help with all the other seedlings.

One sorta looks like Jacob's Ladder, which I DID used to have in a pot, but it died. (Not sure if or how readily Jacob's Ladder seeds/self-sows?) I'm pretty sure the two things that look like 'mini trees' are indeed just that...volunteer seeds from nearby trees.I know that I also tossed a random assortment of flower seeds into these pots, to see what might take/germinate. And lastly, I think the grass-like seedlings are from bird seed that I put out for the birds...

Thank you!!

P.S. For whatever reason I never get the option to upload pix with my original posts, so I must provide pix as separate comments, below.

PLANTER # 1 (I'm especially curious about the one with the small 'geranium-shaped' looking leaves....)

PLANTER #2 (I'm especially curious about the one that LOOKS a bit like Jacob's Ladder leaves - but which I suspect is NOT ...and also curious about the one with leaves that look a bit like arugula....)

PLANTER # 3 (Aside from my auricula in here, I suspect the other seedlings with red veining are some type of 'mini trees' that I should just pull out. Any idea what the other tiny seedlings might be...that are green...in the THIRD PHOTO, below?)

PLANTER #4 (I know that I planted both Morning Glory and Purple Hyacinth Bean seeds in this pot. I'm pretty sure that the bulk of what I see in here....the 'butterfly' shaped leaves...that those are Morning Glory. But in the Left side of these images, other leaves appear more heart-shaped. Might those indeed be the Purple Hyacinth?)

The Geranium is a Geranium. What sort depends on what wild species grow where you are. In the last pictures the butterflies are Morning Glories and so are the hearts. If you look carefully you'll see they're coming from the MG plants.

The Jacobs Ladder does appear to be JL.

In planter 3 you appear to have crabapple (red) and oak (scalloped edge). The small green seedlings are too out of focus and distant to id.

Lemon Grass is highly unlikely to have survived a NY winter. The grasses are more likely to be from the bird seed.

Your 'Arugula' appears to possibly be a Sow Thistle.

Thanks very much. Wild Geranium....hmm...I'm very curious to see what it ends up looking like.

Thrilled to know I'm indeed seeing some new Jacob's Ladder appearing. (This is yet another example of another of my posts you commented on. It seems we indeed had an exceptional Winter here in NYC, as this is the second type of plant of mine that came back far later in the Spring, than it usually would have...)

As for the Lemon Grass, my mistake.... I meant to say Lemon Balm. ;-)

I don't see any Lemon Balm.

I only mentioned the Lemon Balm in case it appeared in the pix. But it's definitely in some of those planters. ;-) I had it last year, and so I know what it looks like...not to mention that amazing smell. ;-)
