drywall cutout for natural light?

We are doing a first floor kitchen remodel that extends to a dining area, and wondering how it would look to cut out a square window in the drywall. This would allow light to come in from the front door / entranceway into the kitchen / dining area of the house, which is facing south and quite dark. Our contractor is trying to talk us out of cutting through the drywall here because he says it will look dumb. What do you all think? The blue would be the cutout area.. the second picture is from the front entranceway.

I don't see the second photo, but, I would do it, IF you can incorporate it into the kitchen design AND the opposite side. Please explain what else will be on the 'window wall' and include more photos.

Thank you for weighing in! There would be a couch with two side tables. I am attaching a picture of that ChatGPT created with the window cut out as an example

okay, I misunderstood. I thought you were cutting the window into the KITCHEN to lighten up the actual kitchen space. Is it load bearing?

Whay not just open up a bigger space. Nothing wrong with floating the sofa and having a console table behind the sofa as a barrier.
