Decorating a tricky wall - please help!

I am not sure how to decorate this wall. Where should the framed art be? I’d like to keep it but it looks terrible there. Also what can I put around it to make it look better? Before you ask, the wooden thing can’t be moved. Despite the look of the wooden thing, I generally like a more modern style. Thanks for any ideas you have!

Why can’t you move the wooden thing? That’s what’s creating the problem. The space calls for one tall vertical piece of art or two horizontal pieces like the one you have, stacked.

You are stuck then.....since the wooden thing is part of the problem.

Will suggest you take Caroline and shirlpp's advice.

Seeing the rest of the space and floor layout would be a great help. Looks like this is a baby zone so we need to see what else is there.

Why can't the wood thing be moved really ? If you start asking for help with some thing you are too bent on keeping we can't help ,that wood thing is the problem .

lol I it can’t be moved over because there is a stopping point where half is carpet and half is hardwood floor. So in the center it would be half on carpet and half on wood. I don’t have anywhere else in the kitchen to move it, and it is a family heirloom so my husband isn’t going to get rid of it.

I was thinking maybe something like put a tall plant next to it to extend that area. Obviously the baby toy can go. Then maybe something above it would look better? I was looking for creative ideas on what I could do to leave it there but still make it look good. I do understand it would obviously be better to move.

Why can't it be moved to another room?

Because it holds potatoes and onions. Would be quite weird to put in a different room. Lol

Ignore the flooring. Place the wood thing in the center of the wall and then place 2 interesting pieces of art over it. Move the eye up to the art and not down to the floor.

Use rubber or felt furniture leg protectors to level out the wood thing on the different flooring types.

What chispa said. And move the baby toys. If you don’t have any other artwork and don’t want to buy something new, at least lower the current picture by about 4-6” and straighten it. 😉

Put it somewhere else and don't use it to store potatoes and onions.

Perhaps it may help you to know that according to the internet, potatoes and onions should be stored in a cool dark place 45-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Relocate the produce, as well as the family heirloom and take Caroline’s advice.

Folow Chispa's advice for the location of your family heirloom.

I also read that potatoes and onions shouldn't be stored in the same cupboard. Apparently, the moisture from the potatoes causes the onions to rot sooner than if they had been stored dry.

What about centering the table on the wall and putting a small throw rug underneath(36"). The rug would be on the hardwood as well as the carpet. Then....a nice piece of artwork above that contains colors from the rug.

Since you seem pretty set on leaving the cabinet where it is, here's one idea...

Find a plant, lower the picture frame, place a lamp on cabinet.
