actually you will get a little more space if you mount the TV on the wall, centered at eye level when seated. congratulations on the new buy.

I am planning on buying new furniture for the space. They did leave the overstuffed lazy-boy chairs, but both are broken and stained, so we will not be using them. I have not purchased a rug yet either. My husband is hesitant to mount the tv, but that would be my preference.

Float your sofa:

Place TV to the right on doorway wall. Float low backed sofa to face doorway wall on one side, seating on the other, but don't block window. Float two swivel chairs to face window and/or TV as needed. Note deep sofa table--great for using as a buffet on game days.

First I suggest you start by getting the main funiture you need . I like a sofa and 2 chairs to start . I do see you have a larger space next to the kitchen why not use that for TV and the extra seating . Then the LR for nice conversation space no TV. Wall mounted TV with cabinet underneath so TV is at eye level when seated is the best. I do not know where the windows are in the great room so mark those for sure but you should have space for 2 sofas and 4 chairs if you get non puffy oversized pieces . Draw the space to scale on graph paper show all th windows and doorways and every measurement clearly marked . The look at furniture on line to start cut out the furniure pieces you like out of cardboard to the same scale and play with the pieces on that drawing. Remember at min 3' walkways and aftr you arrange the pieces how you like then decide where the TV works best . MY LR same size I seat 8 all the time 2 sofas 4 chairs so can be done but we need to see windows and the width of the doorways on the drawing you posted here .

You might look at doing a sofa and some swivel chairs, so that wherever the TV is, your other guests can turn to see it. Note how, in this image from a design we recently did, the sofa is facing the two swivel chairs? That might work well for a layout.
