Final Choice - which one

last month
last modified: last month

Please help - deciding Sunday.

Wanted an all porcelain option - shower wall, shower floor and bathroom floor.

Which one of the two? White vanity and brushed nickel hardware. Thanks!

(Ignore the niche in white and the wall color in the pictures).

Option 1

shower hex is an exact pattern and color match in matte, but a different sheen

stacked tile

Option 2

shower floor is an exact match in pattern and color and sheen

Based on how your photos appear on my screen, Option 2 looks better with the bathroom floor.

I agree Option 2. Love the all white.

Make sure the tile guy installs the grain in the marble so it flows from tile to tile otherwise it will look too chaotic.

Make sure any matching tile patterns are not side by side like clones. I already see a problem in the mock-up with a pattern of three identical tiles going up the wall.

It is a good idea if you were on site to help with the layout pattern on the floor before they go up. We have had people with tile issues here on Houzz and it's always suggested if you can be there until you are assured you are satisfied.

Also the tiles as they are unboxed are not damaged and to check the label on each box is from the same factory dye lot.

The niche should be the same as the walls, not an accent tile.

I like #1 better. The blue is pretty and interesting. Everyone has white bathrooms.

@chloebud maybe option 1 will look better with a slightly darker floor.

@tracefloyd Thanks! That's what I am worried about with option 2 - a "chaotic look". If the tiler gets it right, it can look good, but more chance of an error.

Niche will be the same as the walls. Thanks for your other suggestions.

@Sigrid Agree that Option 1 is different. The blue is a blue gray and feels like a waterfall. Also far less grout lines. That tile has a rich gloss look.

Just that one is stuck with that color vs the other more neutral / common option. I know I have to pick one.

True, white against white can be tricky. It looks like a match on my screen but in real life one or the other could look "off", like you were trying but missed. Think of two white paints, right?

A big no for the blue one for sure . I like the same size tile for both bathroom floor and shower walls and with a busy tile I like stacked . I really like a simple porcealin tile for both with matching grout but if these are the only choice #2 but honestly neither work with the floors you have . I even use the same tile only smaller for the shower floor all matching grout and IMO a look that allows many changes in wall color, accessories down the road with no conflict with tile .

    @jackowskib Thanks!

I like blues and greens. So the wall color in a light gray blue or maybe even a gray green like sea salt. The other combo is an option too. Need to check the whites again and make sure tiler will match the flow.

Here are the two tiles. What do you think? Balanced? I can't tell.

We have a white shower in marble and a fairly plain matte gray floor in porcelain.

I would think about reversing the colors and have the blue color on the floor...seems to ground the room.

@tracefloyd True regarding contrasting colors and a match.

Match or not? What do you think? I can't tell.

I would not try to match blue paint to the blue tile. Use blue accessories. White walls. The blue and the plain white tiles look very balancee together, the blue has some warm tones in it.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting Thanks! I will implement your suggestion of same grout color on tile and floor - thinking frost. The shower floor tiles are the same tile in hex - one is an exact match and the other (blue) has similar colors and pattern to the wall tile - just sheen is different.

What do you think of the floor and tile larger pics I posted above? Do they work with the floor? If not any suggestions?

(I understand the versality of the marble look tile. It's probably timeless too. But, blues and greens make me happy. The blue tile has a rich appearance. With tight grout lines it could look seamless. Will be making one last trip to the tile shop).

@tracefloyd True on grounding the room with blue floor tile. Our bathroom floor is much larger than the shower (which we just extended).

But, I feel like a large blue floor would be too much blue for me and be even more limiting for future changes. The shower is in an alcove and the gray blue will peak through the glass shower doors. So it's there like a waterfall, but only if you look at it. That leaves the bathroom open for other colors. But, that's just a feeling.

@tracefloyd Thanks so much for taking a look at the match. Y the blue has some warm tones.

Also it's not a blue, blue....but a deep gray blue. Has a calming effect (for me). The variation keeps it interesting.

Just a center vein to kind of match for flow . But, if not no chaotic lines everywhere.

ok, I won't look to match the wall paint (even lightest blue). Probably will keep it white or even sea salt. for that blue-green-gray look.

Can you get a plain floor tile? Or nearly plain? I'm always paranoid about pattern repeat in man-made marble.

@tracefloyd You were right about trying to get a plain floor tile . We went to the store and some pieces of the earlier floor tile had more vivid gray markings. So now a plain tile it is! Thanks for your help.

(The other marbly tile was too busy. Looked different online. What they currently had was probably a different dye lot. Leaning towards the blue combo.)

That is a gorgeous floor tile. I would be thrilled to have that floor! It ties the room together. Goes great with the blue/gray you show with it.

Any color from the hex would work with it for paint. When I said no blue I meant blue blue. I think the Sea Salt is too green and intense. The gray tile is such a soft color I would think about a soft white with blue/gray undertones.

@tracefloyd Thanks so much for your help!

I like rock candy. Maybe also misty on SW website, but this one may be too matchy?

Get unsanded grout for the smallest grout lines. I would match the floor tile as closely as possible for a smooth looking finished floor.

Misty does not look like anything from the hex. It looks green in comparison. Bring the tiles to the paint store to match and bring home some paint chips. They look different at home.

@tracefloyd Good idea to take the tiles to the paint store to match.

Was thinking of a darker grout for bathroom floor tile. Easier to maintain and also I don't mind the rectangular shape. But, floor will be completed a bit later - so I have time to decide.
