Dining room art

last modified: 4 days ago

Our dining room is open to a foyer (the teal sideboard). I am trying to decide if artwork is needed on the wall with the cabinet or the window. Hubs thinks it's fine, but I'm not sure. Photos in comments. Last photo is a mockup. Thanks in advance

I would add curtain panels on the windows.

I never like booze bottles as decor why a church pew in there ?// I would do alonger cabinet and a nice large piece of art above and use the other cabinet like a bar if you must but not in the DRLooked ahgain take the top part of that cabinet off and hang art there if the pewstays then onother piece there and lose the booze display.

There are no rules for art. Had an acquaintance that worked in the art industry and had been collecting since she was a kid. Her house had art on every wall from floor to ceiling, in every room. Every time I visited, I always felt my house was so bare! I have a lot more art now, but art on every single wall, like my friend had, would be too much for me. It worked for her and her family. Do what you like.

If you leave furniture as it is now, imo no art needed on window wall or cabinet wall. I would also remove the scroll above the art over the teal cabinet.

I think the room needs to get FINISHED.

The art above the sideboard is the wrong size and direction. I have placed a vertical mirror there instead. The proportions are better IMO.

The art above the church bench is mounted way too high on that wall.

If you want more color then consider adding color to the insert in the ceiling.

Adding drapes to the window could bring more texture to the room

I changed the color of the runner on the table.

A taller plant in the corner would be better.

I'm thinking that some natural rug with some blue accents would help the room.

Sets of framed prints on either side of the hutch would be great for the room

Something to increase the height of the hutch is required.

Beverly, do you have any specifics on that art? I love it!

This is just random stuff I find on line. If you want to search for Sets of 4 prints use Wayfair or Etsy. They have lots of décor that is less expensive.

Another source for art is greatbigcanvas.com. I agree the bench makes the room feel “tight” since chairs need to be pulled out for people to sit at the table.

And yes, a big rug pulls the whole room together and adds some color. Right now it is a lot of browns and gray.

Beverly is correct! The sideboard vignette is too crowded and clenched together.Lose the white doohickey and the horizontal art.Space needs something taller in the middle.
The pew ,while an interesting piece gives the effect of a resto spot where dinner patrons wait for their turn at a table.
Every advisor has relevant suggestions; mostly smaller tweaks that can transform the space into its full comfortable visual glory.
