HELP!!! I need ideas

I REALLY need some sound ideas here as to colors which ones to use where. This is sort of a hodgepodge of a gas fireplace with a concrete mantle, surrounded by built in bookcases. That is the living room area. The other side of the room has metal french doors and is the dining room area. the entire room has a valance as well and two large bay windows. I have ordered the flooring, ill post a pic its rustic look lighter color, but i have NO IDEA what to do from there. attached kitchen is combination darker wood with white subway tile and sage cabinets and continued with dark wood behind TV and aside bookcases. i dont particparticularly like the look of that fureplace and was thinking of just filling that space with a larger ventless that would cover that entire opening, or just keeping it and working it into the new color scheme. Any and all ideas appreciated, antthing showing what it might look like even better! Thank you in advance as i am totally list here. ill include pictures of new floor and potential paint choices.

It looks like you are moving in to a new house with a lot of interesting character.

Please ask specific questions, such as "What color paints would go well with this new wood flooring?".

It would be best to retake the photos with all the lights on in broad daylight with the curtains open.

None of the colors seem quite right with the floor. Are you married to that floor? It is going to be quite busy.

The bottom right or top left would be my choices out of these colors.

Can you take a picture further away from the fireplace so we can really see that end of the room? My initial thought is the same as Patricia's - what's with those shelves? I would take them out and just have lower units.

I really dislike the tv over the fireplace but would need some dimensions and more pictures of the room to see if there are any other options. Right now the fireplace is too " small" under that huge tv - you need to widen that visual. Here is my attempt:

It looks like a house with a lot of great character! That slate floor in the kitchen is awesome but it needs a good professional cleaning and new sealer.

    Love your cute cats!

a good edit is always the best place to start. You only need what you use.

Ask yourself... "What is this? and why do I need it?"

I would choose the lightest of your options shown. Paint everything, ceiling walls and trim all the same color. The contrasting trim is over whelming.

    Can you remove the cubbies?

the fireplace whout be a nice feature, but the cubbies will only be filled with distracting clutter. Is that the only/best spot for the TV?

I like the current real wood flooring and it looks like it could be refinished easily. Is it too late to cancel the order for the new flooring?

Does the kitchen have both wood and slate flooring?

A few details are not clear. The kitchen isn't cluttered but not clear which floor your have, it it the slate or the wood flooring? then there's so much stuff in the living room and dining room to see exactly what these rooms look like and we don't see much of what's in front of the fireplace to really have a feel of the room nor what decor you have. Please post more pictures so that we can see the entire space as well as declutter as best you can. Also tell us what your plan is for all those paint samples, for all the shelves (keeping them all?), etc. to give us more context.

The kitchen is split with a quarter being the slate and the rest the rustic wood. i plan on removing the current fireplace and instaling a flush mount unit without the small wooden mantel. im currently out of the country or i would provide you with more pictures. however think about colors for walls and how to contrast that with the bookshelves. i know it looks a bit busy and goofy but i only hsve so much cash and time to devote to it. i realky app you resp by the wat

Trying to find out how to respond to the indivi comments but have not so ill try to lump it all into one. first of all the ”goofy” shelves are actually bookcases, and since I have many books and its cheaper to keep them im more interested in the best method to integrate them into the larger scheme of tnings…whatever that is 😂. the kitchen is split in two sections, i made tbe wooden floors on the cheap, believe they are passable. That beautiful slate floor way covered by crappy linolium which i peeled back and will scrub finish and seal …did not have the heart to cover it again with the wood. i got a very good deal on the viynl plank flooring and am just going over the old and rough laminate with the new to brighten things up. so i really do not want to rip out the bookcases even though your comments about removing them are probably best. So that being said im trying to make it work the best i can with whats tbere , possibly lessening the cases presence tbrough color and painting style. the one splurge i am going to do is remove that fireplace and replace with a new unit that will be built right into that same area between the bookcases…it will then be flush mount with wood filling tbe area around it. still concerned about color, and how to paint that soffit and corresponding moulding. i really appreciate all of you who take the time to respond, regardless of how abrasive some are 😬😂😎

I would paint the bookcases dark Charcoal and stain the wood behind it in Ebony.

The rest of the space could work in a color wash, the same color for all walls, trim, doors and ceiling. A nice warm white like Swiss Coffee.

I like the kitchen as is, Sage cabinets and white subway tile.

I would paint the ceiling & walls (not the log walls) and bookcase a warm white with a black fireplace surround.

NOTE: Am I wrong seeing log walls on each side of the fireplace and behind the TV?

I like the greenish color of your selections - bottom right. I would paint the walls, soffits and bookcases in that color. Paint the crown and ceiling a nice bright white. Get a nice bright fixture for over your table.

I think since the wood on the wall by the fireplace is dark and your floors will be lighter than that, you need a color to go between.

If it's too much green, then the warm white shown above would be really nice although I think I would still do something darker on the book case.

    Good luck!
