HELP with master bedroom (paint mainly)

We are buying a house and I am planning the painting projects I want to tackle first. With the master, I’m not sure what to do with that ceiling. (What is the style even called??) do I paint over it and just ignore the style, do I accent it in some way to add some visual appeal. Any ideas??

The room is 16’x18’ and I like more of a darker cozy bedroom. Thank you!

No accent for vaulted ceiling tray. Just paint over it .

There you have it - two people, two opinions, and neither is wrong. You have to do what appeals to you. The bedroom is actually already painted a darker color, but the room is drenched in light because the windows are completely open on a bright, sunny day.

The room also feels less relaxing because it is painted taupe. (Pink/purple undertones, between gray and beige.) But the wall color works with the carpet.

Are you thinking about changing the flooring or keeping the carpet?

What color are you thinking? A green or a blue may be more relaxing, but without knowing more about your style and the whole home color palette you have developed, it is hard to know what will work best.

Before painting anything, ensure that your lighting is what you want. You want to test your color selections with both natural daylight and artificial lighting, and since the color of the light will impact the color on the walls you need to have the color of the light determined before you pick wall color.

Again, you will hear all kinds of answers on what is the perfect lighting. It is a personal choice, no right or wrong answer, just different opinions.

I happen to love the color of your bedroom - Taupe is my neutral. I like bright white light (5000 k daylight light bulbs). My home is Mid Century Modern, clean lines, minimalist. Cleaner colors, higher energy feeling, less relaxing.

My sister's home is a lovely Tudor home, lots of wood, antique furnishings and a fall color palette. She uses 2700 k lighting. You feel very relaxed in her home, almost as though you have traveled back in time and can see Marmee reading to Meg, Joe, Amy and Beth around the fire as they are darning socks.

Funny thing, My sister has the energy of the energizer bunny - very outgoing, extrovert, feeds off the energy of other people. I am an extreme introvert, get exhausted by people. Our homes provide balance to our personality types.

I would paint the ceiling all one color. The color it is goes well in the room. Since its a new house to you, I would not paint it right now. One never knows when they get a new house, if everything is working properly, or if something big will need replacing, etc. A person is excited to be moving to a new house, and want to do everything, and a few months later the newness has worn off, and you may realise that what you thought needed changing and did change, was actually perfect the way it was, or needs something else other than what you thought at the time. Your house looks to be in great shape, and done nicely. Move in and enjoy it for a while before you start changing anything. Congratulations on your new house, and just for your information, the first post here, is a spam post. We are getting a lot of wallpaper posts generated mostly AI and they are all spam.

I would not highlight that ceiling, so paint it all one color, be it white or the same as the wall color you pick.

There was a post within the past two weeks about a very similar angled tray ceiling. The OP wanted to add wood or some other type of treatment to the ceiling in order to have the ceiling be a focal point.

It's funny because I hadn't seen an angled tray ceiling with a small center where the light is + such a large section of the ceiling just being flat (not part of the angled tray) before I saw the one in the recent post. It's odd to see another very similar ceiling posted within such a short time frame. The proportions just look very different than what I'm used to seeing.

The following are more typical tray ceilings:

I've also seen several vaulted ceilings like below:

When I have seen an angled tray ceiling, it has been similar to this next photo. The proportions are different than the angled tray ceiling that you have (and the other OP posted recently).

The tray ceilings in photos 1-4 above typically have trim/moulding/crown added + will be accented by using a different paint color - or wood as shown in the fourth photo.

The ceilings in photos 5 and 6 look better either painted white or the same as the wall color.

I agree with chispa - the ceiling should either be all white or the same color as the walls.
