Moulding overlapping with door frame

last year

We’re renovating a Victorian brownstone and trying to select ceiling moulding for our parlour floor.

The moulding we have in mind is around 4-5” given 9’7” ceilings. However, our historic door frame and moulding currently comes within 1-2” of the ceiling. How should we handle moulding around the door?

Do we need to select a smaller moulding? Do we do moulding everywhere but the wall with the door? Do we cut into the 4-5” moulding to make it fit behind? Do we go with a flat moulding? Creative ideas (and photos) welcome!

Thank you.
